What do you think of the new SOAD-record? I think this is the best stuff in Metal since "Toxicity" release. Tracks like B.Y.O.B. or Cigaro are fucking great.

That chorus to B.Y.O.B. has been stuck in my head since the first time I heard the song. That's the only song I've heard yet so far, though; looking forward to the rest...

I dont like SOAD at all, but i should say i'm very impressed at their ability to compose such bizarre hits, their structures are not like the traditional hit song and yet they can make these kind of friendly metal thing. Their tunes are just so singable... or screamable. Well... his songs, Malakian is the one who writes'em all or at least that's what he says.

elgolfo (elgolfo), Saturday, 14 May 2005 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

it's very good indeed. i want to go on to explain why, but my keyboard is slightly too far away and it's uncomfortable to type. but the fact remains, it's very good indeed.

Lee F# (fsharp), Saturday, 14 May 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

cigaro is the only good song on it

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Saturday, 14 May 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Malakian sings too much on the single. And Serj looks distressingly like Frank Zappa in the video. But I'm gonna buy it on Tuesday anyway. Oh, and if you think this is the best thing going on in metal, well, I feel bad for you.

What are they saying at the end of BYOB?

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 14 May 2005 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i like it alot so far. i just bought "toxicity" a couple of months ago. is it just me or is the production on the new one a little more old school metal? like the guitars are less downtuned and 'nu metal' in sound or something.

i'm still waiting for the outrage over the uncensored "FUCK YOU" that got through on SNL.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Saturday, 14 May 2005 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The first two albums were produced by Rick Rubin; did he do this one?

pdf (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 14 May 2005 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the second song they played on SNL, wasn't home for the first, was so silly "serious" and it was if he really felt he was tapping into the dark arts or something going by the look on his face.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 14 May 2005 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

You missed the good one. The second song was "Aerials", the token ballad from Toxicity. I thought the performance of "BYOB" was quite good. They should have done "Cigaro" instead of "Aerials".

Sundar (sundar), Sunday, 15 May 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

everytime i hear this band, i think someone's playing a practical joke on me.

()ops (()()ps), Sunday, 15 May 2005 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

once again the SNL soundmen knew exactly what to do to make a band sound as shitty as possible. there was NO bass guitar OR bass drum in the mix. bravo at being consistant for 30 yrs SNL soundmen!

charleston charge (chaki), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

QOTSA was on tonight and they kept the backing vocals in the second song inaudible. really weird. i get the feeling their sound guy doesn't listen to albums of the bands he's mixing.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Sunday, 15 May 2005 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

the new album is absurd, generally in a good way

ps. HEY MAN, LOOK AT ME ROCKING OUT!!!

natlawdp, Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:45 (twenty-one years ago)

has there been a thread about Will Ferrell's dancing/get-up during the first QOTSA song on SNL?

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 19 May 2005 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

he was the "more cowbell" guy

i saw a painful interview with these guys on fuse where they really thought they were being clever but god they were acting like smart ass 13 year olds

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 24 December 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

It's a character trait. Occasionally the Los Angeles Times interviews them and has regularly reviewed their records. It's a general case of, hey, this is the land of metal and in this land of the intellectually blind, the one-eyed men are kings. Neither of the albums did anything for me this year, although the second nearly drove me out of Pasadena's Tower when someone put it on.
