No

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

YES.

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Were you in a coma during the years 1993-1998?

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ick and double ick

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

the words "essential" and "Razorlight" do not belong together, ever . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I was listening to SKA which is 100x better than your dull music, you NME cumsockboy. xpost

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:54 (twenty-one years ago)

What, you mean like the Maytals?

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

(also: my dull music)

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I like a lot of stuff on THAT mix. But this mix is indefensible.

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It has two good Strokes songs and two good White Stripes songs and I'm pretty sure nobody from Victory Records is on it

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"Hitler was of the Keynesian school and implemented lots of helpful public works projects and I'm also prertty sure he did not gas any Chinese people."

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The copy text for band pages on Victory's site is really really funny!

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, you've just reminded me and hopefully yourself that Panzerfaust comps are worse than this on every ground imaginable. Also I am arguing with Jon Williams about indie rock when I could be watching Space Ghost DVDs instead.

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Sonny Sharrock did music for Space Ghost, no?

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a compilation that'll appeal to the semi-clueless peers of mine (as opposed to the blatantly clueless ones, who listen to things far more insufferable), but it's by far nowhere near the worst compilation tracklisting I've seen.

That's not cocaine! It's Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Mantra), Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Worst Compilation Ever

Fuck you.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you a MUSE fan?

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread is what they mean by the pit of vipers. There's nothing wrong with those songs, dude. Turn off the krautrock and IDM for awhile and enjoy yourself.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Sunday, 15 May 2005 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Its not that I don't like some of the songs! It is just a bad compilation.

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 03:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian Riese-Moraine and kornrulez both 100% OTM.

Goodbye Indian Summer (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 15 May 2005 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you ever listened to the LYRICS in a Postal Service song?

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Its not that I don't like some of the songs! It is just a bad compilation.

I quote: "Bad indie from both sides of the pond!"

shanecavanaugh (shanecavanaugh), Sunday, 15 May 2005 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I just think it's hilarious that they put Shatner on it!

D. Bachyrycz, Sunday, 15 May 2005 03:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I count seven songs that I don't like.

I think this era will be remembered fondly.

The kids love Shatner.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

How much does this cost?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:07 (twenty-one years ago)

oh god i'm TOTALLY in agreement with shane. individually these songs/bands are bearable - but unfortunately the common denominator that ties them all together is not. if you are going to listen to my morning jacket you CANNOT listen to ryan adams or coldplay the same day or even month. same goes for postal service and shins. you need some counteraction to that bullshit. its like surrounding yourself with big floppy fat penises that do nothing but sag in front of your face all day. pretty, but USELESS! only after being arse-f*cked for hours by a real cock could one deal with such useless penis music. i think i'd find the person who made this list to be very very very annoying and a little dull. does that help? i have a fever so pls. forgive the nastiness - i could not think of a better analogy.

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

of course it IS essential alternapop - i can't argue with that

Susan Douglas (Susan Douglas), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

In the indie scene, singles = bad, album tracks = good.

If it were all songs no one had ever heard it would be a boring list - to me at least, I usually don't know where to begin when faced with a list of all potentially great songs/bands that I've never heard of before. I usually am more likely to check them out if it's surrounded by songs I'm familiar with.

It's no Festive Fifty, obviously. However I'm assuming this is just links to individual downloadable mp3s, so I don't think it's to be taken as an actual "compilation" like the Rhino or Kay-Tel releases.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i like 'portions for foxes', i wish i could convince rilo kiley to play it first when i go see their opening band so that i could stay one song more and then leave.

keith m (keithmcl), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you really think flaccid penises are pretty?

Sundar (sundar), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

jon otm

j blount (papa la bas), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

there's something on this list for EVERYONE to hate on!

(i still likes me some coldplay, keane, and flaming lips. the rest --- PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 15 May 2005 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Keane is inexcusable!!! Even Coldplay has their moments! I hate you!!! Die!!!!

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 05:03 (twenty-one years ago)

even the best of us has our weaknesses ... and you just admitted that you (kinda) like (some) coldplay, SO YER INFECTED TOO MR. NOISEROCK!!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 15 May 2005 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the rhythm section of Clocks. I don't like any Coldplay songs!

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Its a primer for those who want to start watching the OC and rent Garden State and Napoleon Dynamite and dress like those folks with chunky glasses and chucks. You can also wear, I mean listen, to the music on your ipod with those cool white headphones.

I mean that in the most cynical way possible.

jmeister (jmeister), Sunday, 15 May 2005 05:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Most of those songs are pretty good but the problem with it is that it is a "clichè" compilation that groups the bands together in a weird way.

Making a list of the top "indie" bands like this is kind of like seeing that Arianna Huffington celebrity blog in that you wonder "what's the point of this?". Indie bands are not to be so carelessly grouped together for mass consumption like famous people are not meant to be using a medium that is usually for non-famous people who wants to talk like they're famous. It's just kind of backwards.

Cunga (Cunga), Sunday, 15 May 2005 05:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure Miccio and I could bro down over a comp of SOAD/Korn stuff easier than this shit. Fuckl this crap

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Sunday, 15 May 2005 10:34 (twenty-one years ago)

the words "essential" and "Razorlight" do not belong together, ever . . .

What about "it is essential that Razorlight be prevented from ever releasing another flaccid Boomtown Rats tribute record?"

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 15 May 2005 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, the point is that regardless of the merits of the individual songs/bands on the comp, it represents a design for a kind of life that must be STAMPED OUT.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 15 May 2005 10:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Turn off the krautrock and IDM for awhile and enjoy yourself.

By listening to beige indie shite, or by slamming my balls in the fridge door for a couple of hours? The latter would be more fun, I think.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 15 May 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Any comp with "Yellow", "Clocks", "Take Me Out (single of 2004 no contest), "Float On", "Take Your Mama", and "Can't Stand Me Now" on it can't be all bad.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

it represents a design for a kind of life that must be STAMPED OUT

What?

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Susan, your response is hysterical.

That's not cocaine! It's Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Mantra), Sunday, 15 May 2005 12:55 (twenty-one years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 15 May 2005 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, the second dude from the right is hott

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Sunday, 15 May 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

that is a rediculous picture. Also the comp reads as the playlist for just about every pseudo-hipster party in college for the last few months.

ihope (ihope), Sunday, 15 May 2005 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't understand why the word Hipster has any association with those bands.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 15 May 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, hipsters wouldn't be caught dead listening to half of those bands, I presume. That's not sarcasm either. Scenesters, maybe.

... And suddenly Ian Riese-Moraine is a naked man saying, 'Volvo! Volvo!' (Easte, Sunday, 15 May 2005 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

NO MULTIPLE SONGS BY THE SAME ARTIST ON A MIX EVER.

EVERRRRR.

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

the comp reads as the playlist for just about every pseudo-hipster party in college for the last few months.

What's wrong with that? These are NOT BAD SONGS, people!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 15 May 2005 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Maybe you are just dumb and wrong?

A homunculus of Darby Crash, .... created for the purposes of *EVIL* (ex machina, Monday, 16 May 2005 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i resent that 'the rat" has been tarred with the same brush as the rest of these songs.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Monday, 16 May 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Cmon its 75 tracks forming a partencyclopedia of 2004 as seen from 2004-05? ITS HISTORIC VALUE IS IMMENSE IT IS or at least interesting when read aloud in 2014.

OleM (OleM), Monday, 16 May 2005 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Er now I look through it again and see it is not a 2004 list. My bad. Thus, future canon ahoy.

OleM (OleM), Monday, 16 May 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

NO MULTIPLE SONGS BY THE SAME ARTIST ON A MIX EVER.

Says who?

billstevejim (billstevejim), Monday, 16 May 2005 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Me. And High Fidelity. :p

Jessie the Monster (scarymonsterrr), Monday, 16 May 2005 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay. Just for the record, the first sentence of my previous post was supposed to be italicized. I was quoting that part about not hating the songs.

Also, this is a compilation - not a mix.

shanecavanaugh (shanecavanaugh), Monday, 16 May 2005 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

For more clarification, I like the songs on the compilation.

*sigh* I never should've responded to this thread in the first place.
