Precisely how irresponsible is the idea of taking a popular music artist and turning him into some sort of a video game killing machine?

Quite a lot, I'd say.
It's one thing to get your jollies beating up folk in Grand Theft Auto or eviscerating zombies in God of War but when you glorify an actual person by turning them into some sort of a mass murderer... that you can PLAY... I think this would be where I draw the line.

don't particularly see the problem myself.

turning gruesome real life-experience into entertainment? i'm all for it, gazillions of great examples for many spheres which could be termed "irresponsible" if one wanted to be fussy about it. films about real-life wars/battles, songs detailing unpleasant behaviour etc.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 15 May 2005 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

or at least, i don't quite see why this is where you draw the line, though i am willing to be convinced otherwise.

I do hope Lloyd Banks has a significant role in this game. Perhaps as a Miles "Tails" Prower figure?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 15 May 2005 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh no, I was hoping that this would be some sort of game where you could pick the pop star you wanted to be turned into a video game killing machine and then, like, arm them accordingly and stuff. That would be awesome. Like so:

wow, video games with rappers are going to be the new video games based on moves, or in other words, TOTAL SHITE. I'm especially skeptical of the 50 Cent game since it didn't have a second of actual gameplay... and I mean, it IS 50 Cent.

Just as a start: I have a serious issue with the lack of abstraction. This isn't a wrestling game or an alien attack; this is Curtis running around and getting all Kill Bill on everyone. And this is a man with a rap sheet who has RECENTLY been in a crossfire. This sort of glorification of violence in hip hop is repugnant and offensive in light of those artists in the genre (i daresay you could name a few) who've been murdered. It also allows for the approval of sociopathic activity as a thing to aspire to. What's next, the Kill Biggie game?
And yeah, I know this game isn't for kids but what the fuck: it's being released this christmas. Line overstepped all over.

Incidentally, Dom, that article was great.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 16 May 2005 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It's odd, because you're largely OTM but a large part of me is thinking, "It's 50 Cent; who gives a fuck?" I understand that given his profile and popularity that's a completely bizarre reaction to have but really, at the end of the day who gives a fuck?

In the other room, I heard this dude saying "Xhibit's kicking my ass!" and then I look at the TV, and turns out it was the truth.

They made an Iggy Pop video game?

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Monday, 16 May 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

This 50 Cent game is great! It's close to 100% realism, because the video game version keeps the same grimace on his face through that entire film clip, JUST LIKE THE REAL 50 CENT!

Just out of curiosity... you do know that Snoop Dogg is a playable character in the newest GTA, and he is an actual person being glorified by being turned into some sort of mass murderer that you can PLAY, right?

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The new GTA doesn't feature Snoop as a PLAYABLE character to the best of my knowledge.
Also:
1:)For all its posturing, GTA:SA is cartoony. The fifty clip is just gunporn.
2:) GTA is a good game. If (big if) this 'bulletproof' turns out to be a good game, most is forgiven. I feel certain this will be lousy, tho.

Snoop is the main bad guy in the recent Def Jam wrestling game. That game is awesome, by the way.
