I used to be crazy into 7 Seconds (specifically the "Skins, Brains & Guts" e.p., The Crew and Walk Together, Rock Together) but dug some of it out recently and thought to myself, whilst scratching my beard (y'know, the one that covers up my shamed, puffy, compromising face)..."Wow, they really weren't very good, were they?"

I mean, most of my other fave `core bands remain -- to my mind -- untouchable. LP's by the Circle Jerks, the DK's, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Naked Raygun, etc. -- that shit still all stands up, but 7Seconds just sound so weedy, wimpy and whiney now.

"Skins, Brains & Guts"

I'll go with the 'skins & guts' part. 'Brains' is stretching it thin. There has to be a consolotion prize for being the acme of barrell-scraping fighting hardcore that lamely professes not to be about fighting.

I think their early stuff still holds up, the stuff that's compiled on the Alt.Music.Hardcore CD. The Old School CD isn't bad either. The Crew and Walk Together, Rock Together are nowhere near as good though, and I've avoided listening to anything later than that.

seven years pass...

The Crew still rules. I fell in love with "Trust" in '84 as a 17 year old. Played it again tonight and it still holds up with it's ridiculous not quite blast beats. It was a tune. 7 Seconds always had a tune that one's milkman ( you won't remember) could whistle
