how do i create a list of my itunes music that isn't a mess?

if i "import playlist" i get all this extraneous info and a really unwieldly (sp?) text or xml file. how can i just get a list of all 4,000-odd songs i have in itunes??? maybe some kind of shareware doodad?

Choose "print" from the menu bar, then click on "song listing," then on the "print" button again. When you are on the final print screen, click on the "Save as pdf" button, and you will end up with a nice neat list.

select all, copy and paste into a text editor?

There are indeed freeware/shareware programs that let you do this in a variety of formats. iTunes Publisher is one for OS X - not sure about Windows but there must be some.
