Er, "Pump Up The Volume"?

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"Anitina (The First Time I See She Dance)."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Anitina - I love the way she dance.

Was I right?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

'Ticket To Ride'

$V£N! (blueski), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i was actually listening to Anitina as i spotted this thread.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The World Cup is next year! Not too late to use "The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme"!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

We played Anitina at the last Club Popular, how very clever of us.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Indeed. It's much better than the somewhat overrated "Pump Up The Volume."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

WRONG!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

CORRECT!!!!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Looks like there is a lot of love for the b-side here. I haven't even heard it myself, I must admit...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

it's not a B-Side.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Officially, it was not. But everybody apart from M/A/R/R/S themselves tended to agree that "Pump Up The Volume" was indeed the "a" side.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"Anitina" might not be up your street Geir, although it is arguably more melodic than "Pump Up The Volume" (as it is mostly AR Kane, whereas "PUTV" was mostly Colourbox).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think "Pump up the Volume" is overrated, I think it's fucking great!

Anitina, I suppose I'll have to listen to it tonight, I can only remember the drum machine from it right now.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you remember the subsequent hilarious parody record, "Pump Up The Bitter" by Starturn On 45 (Pints)? A Top 20 hit in early '88, largely through the efforts of DLT. My sides split at the mere recollection of the rich seam of humour contained within.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:46 (twenty-one years ago)

"Ye Ke Ye Ke (The Afro Acid Remix)". Most people aren't aware this one, but I have the white label 12" to prove it. Big floor-filler of mine at the time.

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

"Yeh drink sixteen pints, whaddaya get / Wake up in the morning and your bed is wet"

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:50 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yes i got this on MP3 at your recommendation earlier - pretty great (but i still prefer the hardfloor mix).

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah of course I remember "Ye Ke Ye Ke" - #29 in the Acieed summer of '88. When Bruno Brookes first played it he thought it was Russ Abbot.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

This Beat is Technotronic?

RS, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I am unsure how we got from M/A/R/R/S to Technotronic, either avec or sans Ya Kid K.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

PUMP UP TEH VOLUME

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 13:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I couldn't remember "Pump Up The Volume" but Technotronic was in the same neighborhood of my brain.

RS, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you'll find the appropriate lyric went "Pump up the BEAT."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 13:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"Pump up the Volume"

Weird, I just watched American Psycho.

sleep (sleep), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 14:14 (twenty-one years ago)

anitina

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

It came to mind first because I recently relistened to Meat Beat Manifesto's Storm The Studio, and "God O.D." samples the beginning feedback of "Anitina".

Had it been a couple of weeks earlier, when I was listening to "Time Machines" from the Jackofficers' Digital Dump, "Pump Up The Volume" would be the one I would blurt out.

donut debonair (donut), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Helen Fordsdale

PappaWheelie (PappaWheelie), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you'll find the appropriate lyric went "Pump up the BEAT."

or Pump Up The Jam. depending on whether you want to be right or not.

Lee F# (fsharp), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a shame that neither of these really helped the careers of A.R. Kane nor Colourbox.

... And suddenly Ian Riese-Moraine is a naked man saying, 'Volvo! Volvo!' (Easte, Tuesday, 17 May 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

"Pump Up the Volume"

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Listen Up by Ark.
