Mitchell Brothers ft Mike Skinner and Sway- Harvey Nicks

You know, if Mike Skinner sticks to playing at being some kinda autistic oik Nate Dogg, he may well find his way into my good books. Slagging off "Dry Your Eyes" during the intro works good as well.

And Sway: future superstar, surely?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

This song suffers from the fact that the Mitchell Brothers are shit MCs and Mike Skinner's autistic child impression is still annoying. But it's funny, and the production is fucking great, so overall it's a good thing.

But can we talk about Sway? Sway is amazing. If you've heard either of his two promo mixtapes, you'll know this boy will be a star. I mean, his verse on 'Harvey Nicks' alone is just so so good! So funny, so confident. I love Sway.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I've not laughed at a verse as much as Sway's on this track. "Is this how you spell "Lemar"?"- lyric of the year so far.

What else is good from Sway at the moment? Other than "Flo Fashion"? His webpage is teh suck, has he actually been signed yet? If so, changed the domain d00d.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i like it lots, the sway verse is particularly great, which suprised me after the unfunny crapness of "flo fashion"! unfortunately everything else i've heard from the mitchell bros has been pretty disappointing - "routine check", "shut up" and "ur a fool" (tho the last might just be growing on me) are all about as funny and intriguing as the football betting song on "grand don't come for free"

(btw i've reupped this at the blog if ppl want it)

'Pepsi', which is his piss-take of 'Tipsy', is fantastic. 'Up Your Speed' as well, 'London' with Bruza and Baby Blue, oh and 'Call My Name' which has Madonna-sampling grime production courtesy of Wonder. I'm not very good with Sway titles as my CDs have become separated from their track listings.

I love the way "the pound is stronger than the dollar, holla" is becoming his trademark line.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

seriously I'd recommend both mixtapes because he's so funny throughout, including on skits.

Mitchell Bros are just lame lame lame.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 09:58 (twenty-one years ago)

What kind of party doesn't have a DJ?

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

the british national party.

stelfox, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Au contraire! Did you not see that great story last year about how some BNP idiot hired a DJ for their 'do' and the DJ turned out to be a black guy! "He sounded white on the phone" apparently.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 11:03 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, i saw it was very funny. they all walked out of the party, and thus were, in fact, tom, sans dj. whether this was their choice or not, i stand by my previous statement!

stelfox, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Sway gave me his CD-R, but I've bloody gone and misplaced it.

The Irrelevant Man (Negativa) (Barima), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

someone explain to me what is so good about sway? his jokes are corny, he sounds like hes rapping in ABCs and the mitchell brothers arent shit, theyre great!

the chorus on this is a bit much though. sounds too overloaded.

ppp, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

On first impression Sway sounded like a better MC than say, Wylie, and his jokes work for me.

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

.. Sway the MTV VJ?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, Sway's verse on this is pretty amazing.
"They must think I'm a thief cos I - don't - sound - like - the - Streets"

Good corniness > bad thugishness

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

the mitchells on routine check are way better than on this. their flows are hotter and stronger and more robust than sway, sway just sounds like a gimmicky joker, like he might end up the uk hip hop j-zone or something. but then everyone on ILM sees nothing gimmicky about lady sov do they so im not that surprised!

ppp, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

You make this sound like a bad thing! He could do a song about how he'd beat all of the Lowlife roster at 5-a-side football!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 15:58 (twenty-one years ago)

why is that overt humour always seems to lead to accusations of 'novelty' and 'gimmicky'?

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Because music isn't meant to be fun, silly!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

slick rick was witty, thirstin howl is amusing. i prefer that to being a bit well, silly.

ppp, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, I'm a closet Ugly Duckling fan.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

You..rook..marverous...

$V£N! (blueski), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

did any other SF'ers read this post cuz they thought it had to do with the Mitchell Bros porn team of the '70s?

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i like ugly duckling too. MEATSHAKE rules! i love paul barman too. sway isnt as funny as those guys.

ppp, Wednesday, 18 May 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Is one of Sway's mixtapes with King Tech?

Jonathan (Jonathan), Thursday, 19 May 2005 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't like Skinner, but loved this when i heard it.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 19 May 2005 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Who does Skinner says "looks like a fuckin' CLOWN" at the end?

M Philip O'Nyman (Ferg), Sunday, 22 May 2005 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

.. Sway the MTV VJ?

-- The Brainwasher (bornliveddie...), May 18th, 2005.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 22 May 2005 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Sway the MTV VJ was on a local radio show last night promoting some mixtape he's involved w/. Dunno if he's just putting his name on it, or he's actually ON the mixtape.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 23 May 2005 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

four months pass...
damn. even with the mobo, and a reissue of the mixtapes being available in normal record shops outside london ( i am enjoying vol 1 at last !) the mans website is totally grim.
