What do people think?

I am sitting on the fence a bit in case it blows me away but so far it sounds kind of average. Like the track with Malte and "Far East" a little, the rest seems kind of forgettable. Chikinki guy has a crappy voice and neither track is as good as their remix of Chikinki, possibly cos they made the tracks specifically for him.

Haven't heard it but sort of expected this (a faster than ever move from new thing to coffee table...jeez the next new thing will be instant coffee table, oh boy.)

I really liked that remix they did for Chikinki, didn't mind his voice (probably because it was buried in a heap of effects.)

I'm going to have to say this is pretty bad, and it's almost comically bad in places. It's quite removed from all their electrohouse remixes.

I don't mind them going so blatantly pop, but most of the vocals sound goofy or like parodies of electroclash. I wonder if that Ed Laliq track would clear a floor as fast as I think it would (the lyrics go "I'm a troubled man, in trouble, I'm a troubled man, deep in trouble, troubled maaaaaaaaaan, in trouble")

The track with Matt from the Rapture is shouty fun though. Maybe I will learn to enjoy some of this on a more novelty level, as I've enjoyed plenty of great Italo tunes with horrible vocals.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i have only heard a couple of things from it and didn't really like either. it just makes me think that they blew all their great ideas on doing too many remixes. however, maybe they know exactly what they are doing and it will crossover big time.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah that's exactly it, it sounds like electroclash from 2001 or 2002, but minus the camp or something.

I was really expecting this to be really good, I thought while it might have vocals etc it'd be a really good crossover record. Very disappointing.

Few ok tracks but it's nothing special.

x-post I'd be surprised if it crossed over, but maybe. it doesn't even feel catchy to me. I mean if all the tracks were like the Chikinki remix of the Kitsuné album, I could definitely see crossover potential then, but they aren't I guess.

I do think I'd play the track with Malte singing though.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The instrumentals aren't bad either really I suppose.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

as i said on the electrohouse thread, total rubbish. i'd elaborate further but i already deleted it.

I half-listened to the sampler and like most people thought it was at best average, though the vocals were mostly terrible. I saw a promo of the full album and not only does it have Chikinki on several tracks but also Tracey Thorn (I loved her voice in the 90s but come on).

Sliver of hope - all of these are unmastered apparently. Hopefully the mastering process will involve changing everything about the tracks as they are.

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the only thing any mastering could do to improve it is if they get stefan betke to stick it through his malfunctioning waldorf filter and turn it into a pole record with a kik drum.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What are we talking about? An unmastered promo CD? A leaked collection of mp3's?

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

i vote for the pole filter!!

The thing that I miss most on listening to these is the sense of texture and build you get on most of their remixes. There's the skeleton of a great track on Troubled Man if you removed the vocals and added all those amazing multilayered ravey effects you get on the second CD of Misch Masch but this just kind of hangs there limply.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

i hope these are outtakes and the final album will be filler-lessly murderous

manuel (manuel), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

all i've heard so far is "troubled man", which is - yes - underwhelming. listening to "wait and see" now, sounds alright, but i'm drunk. i spose it was inevitable that at least a couple of the electro godz would end up disappointing us, they can't all be cowboys (was hoping that shorter, 'poppier' songs would work for the schwarz bros too, oh well)

jermaine (jnoble), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

It's odd that they've gone in this direction with the album when the DJ Mix for Misch Masch and "Issst" implied that they'd be going darker and techier.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 19 May 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Is 'Issst' even going to be on the album? I can see them going for the idea of releasing pure dance tracks on 12inch, grouping that stuff together with remixes and mixcd's and trying to be pop on albums. I like the idea, although those "let's try something totally different" albums never seem to work (it's like those "I want to write real songs" things which you often find on dance albums, they always suck somehow.)

Omar (Omar), Thursday, 19 May 2005 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

issst is on my copy

Chris Houghton (chrish), Thursday, 19 May 2005 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I love their remixes, but RAL 9005 did nothing for me. How does this compare?

Chewshabadoo (Chewshabadoo), Thursday, 19 May 2005 09:46 (twenty-one years ago)

when i interviewed them about the album a while back, they were going on and on about musicality and progression etc like some kind of German LTJ Bukem. they seemed to think that remixes and album tracks are completely different beasts. haven't heard this yet but i'm not looking forward to it.

uggh, Thursday, 19 May 2005 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
The track with Malte is good actually, and it worked really well when I played it last week.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

which one is that? i downloaded 3 tracks and found them so boring i didn't listen again.
