My thoughts on the matter.

otm on the slick guitar licks- "the hunter" is a perfect example. all of rrussell bell's heavy-metal noodling is a disturbing addition to what is, in effect, a dark, grungy and fantastic riff.

have you heard kipper play "hunter" live- suffers even worse.

No, but I can imagine the results.

I could not disagree more with, well, pretty much everybody on the subject of Numan during this period; I think these records are awesome (yes even Metal Rhythm and that the yowling guitars are effective brushstrokes/cinema filters. One has to listen to them with an open, curious ear instead of going "ouch eighties effects-box!" Words/colors/gestures/sounds can carry several senses, I think.

i'm torn b/w whether this one or warriors was the beginning of the end ... yeah, berserker has some good songs (not the least the title track and "my dying machine"), but it also has a lot of too-slick-for-its-own-good wank. i think that gazza just got lost w/ all of his new toys, as well as letting his always not-well-hidden metalhead tendencies slide into butt/poodle-rock land here.

still, CLASSIC cover!

i emulated the hoop-in-a-hoop earring many times in my youth

I always thought, for the most part, the precussion sounded real good on this one. CEDRIC SHARPLEY on LIVE DRUMS.

who is zues b.held ?
all i know is he produced the mighty Transvision vamp

i don't know much about zeus b.held other than the Tvamp and Gina X connections and the fact that he did some programming on this album.

on top o'dat who the hell is ZAINE GRIFF?? (background vocals on 'The Secret') frankly, it's more like a duet with gazza.

one year passes...
listened to this cd for the first time in FOREVER and I have to say that if Numan nailed one thing perfectly- the synergy of the haunting, cold iceman image with the frostbitten sound of the record.

This is something that on "The Fury" and "Warriors" was not a strong suit: the image and it's music relation.

I was going to post a picture of the sleeve but Zion Train beat me to it. I want to kill myself because I don't own it on vinyl anymore.
