SOULWAX's 'funky lipps' (a cross breed of their own 'NY EXCUSE'
with lipps inc's 'FUNKYTOWN' practically needs a thread all on it's own. it's ASTONISHING.

piscesboy, Friday, 20 May 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

and some say lord lucan might still be alive.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

botlegs that's what they're calling them all now right?

can i change that so it says bootlegs?
or can someone that's not retarded?

piscesboy, Friday, 20 May 2005 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

No leave it as it is. I like the idea of "botlegs." Reminds me of Botley, near where I used to live.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ah bugger, too late.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Check out the Aggro1 version of M.I.A.'s "Pull Up the People" at Boom Selection. Siouxsie and the Banshees meets M.I.A. and makes fantastic rocking stomper.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh dear.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I appreciate you're not feeling too chipper at the moment, Marcello, but it's a brilliant mix.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Friday, 20 May 2005 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a bootleg (or remix, whatever you wanna call it) of Gwen Stefani's last single. I think it has some Queen sample injected in her skinny arse. ;-) It was pretty good the one time I listened to it. :-)

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Friday, 20 May 2005 13:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone really like mash-ups?

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Friday, 20 May 2005 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd still hankering to hear a full version of the Killers vs Let's Dance bootleg, there's just 20 seconds of it at the end of this: http://www.gohomeproductions.co.uk/audio/ghp_uptight_killer.mp3

I urge you all to pester Mark Vidler on [email protected] to make a full version of this. I bet there's a fair few other great boots out there but you don't hear as much about them any more.

I'm not mad keen on the NY Lipps track but I suppose I need to hear it played loud in a club, which I'm guessing I will on Saturday.

I'd like to hear the remix of Gwen, do you have a link or a YSI for it Stevie?

Affectian (Affectian), Friday, 20 May 2005 13:30 (twenty-one years ago)

heard two great ones this year:

mark ronson's "bombs over scotland" ( franz v. outkast) and
dopplebanger's "don't get it twisted sister" (mobb deep v. the rapture)

jermaine (jnoble), Friday, 20 May 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

This one consists of about 40 Beatles songs. Kind of a fun listen:

darin (darin), Friday, 20 May 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm wondering if 'All These Things I've Done' might work better over 'Let's Dance' actually.

dopplebanger's "don't get it twisted sister" (mobb deep v. the rapture)

would love to hear this if anyone's got it

$V£N! (blueski), Friday, 20 May 2005 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Here are a bunch of remixes and mash ups of Pet Sounds:

darin (darin), Friday, 20 May 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

stevem - it's freely available on dopplebanger's site (cant remember the address, just type 'dopplebanger' into google)

jermaine (jnoble), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Can anyone point me towards an mp3 of that NY Excuse/Funkytown mix?

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

piscesboy, Wednesday, 25 May 2005 09:48 (twenty-one years ago)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Would anyone YSI it?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

no?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i've been listening to f&s superchunk and "raiding the 20th century" a lot recently.

are there any other classic megamixes out there? this is my preferred way to listen to mashups i think.

Lukas (lukas), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i did an Eminem vs Betty Boo mix that was quite fun.

admittedly, it was a few years ago, so it doesn't really count as '05, BUT i never actually made it publicly available, so maybe if i do so this year.... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a MONSTER set from Soundhog called "Live At Mokkacuka" or something like that. Way better than the 2-part Freelance Hellraiser set from the same event.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark - the only one of the Beach Boy mashups I actually saved was the God Only Knows one (it was the best, IMO). Email me and I'll send it to you, if you want.

darin (darin), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

without me & doin' the do.

tbh, betty wins.

you want me to put a link up to it?

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

darin, if it was the one mixed with Blur's Parklife, I have it already as part of the Parkmix thingy of last year. If not, that's my email right there and thanks a lot I luv you...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Frenchbloke's recent 'Everything Yo Do Is Wrong' mix has some great mashed up moments though quite subtle in many cases. Usher's 'Yeah' over Divine's 'I'm So Beautiful', Orbital mix of Kraftwerk's 'Expo 2000' over Meat Beat Manifesto's 'Dog Man Star', LCD's 'Tribulations' with Strawberry Switchblade...so many great moments.

My epic 1991 mix featuring loads of stuff from that year mostly mashed up should be up next week.

ah, what the hell:
http://www.kittenrecords.co.uk/eminemvsbettyboo.mp3

let me know if you enjoy it. preferrably on here, since i lost the password to my diskant.net mail. ahem.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 26 May 2005 10:25 (twenty-one years ago)

The ultimate 'Without Me' mash-up was done by my old mucker, DJ Cursa, and featured the aid of 'Someone's Watching Me'.

thing is, the mashupability of a track is proportionate to the availability of the acapella version. so obviously stuff like eminem is much more likely to be fiddled with by the occasional masher. i figured that went without saying.

show me a place with a billion acapella versions of a billion artists, and i'll work on something more obscure.

though i figured that went without saying. until then, you'll just have to deal with my done to death workings of done to death songs.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 26 May 2005 13:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I did not know that was you. In any case, I did not mean to be rude about it, just thought you might enjoy the link above...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 May 2005 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yah, i totally did like it. didn't mean to sound so snappy, like.

actually, i was hoping someone would be all like "ahahaha, but here's a place where you CAN get that shit, suckah!"

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 26 May 2005 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you talking just quantity or also quality?

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Because as far as quality goes, i don't see how a more available a cappella really matters in that sense. You'll be surprised how many priced down promo hip-hop/R&b 12"s with a cappellas (or a cappellae?) you can find for cheap that never make it to the net.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 26 May 2005 17:16 (twenty-one years ago)

the ghost that feeds

I'll bet Trent regretted putting up the multitracks to his song when he heard this
