Jules Holland was a host....Stewart Copeland did theme, I think the theme was called "Theme for a Kinetic Space Ritual" from his Klark Kent days. I can't remember the name of the show but I do believe that IRS label funded it cause I saw Wall of Voodoo, Oingo Boing who are or were IRS labelmates. I remember a cocktail glass tipping over or something like that....was it called "The Cutting Edge"? I'd sure like to get my hands on those shows. Anybody?

Peter Zaremba was the host.

Peter Zaremba from the Fleshtones....who also was on IRS. Was the name of the show "The Cutting Edge"?

"the cutting edge," yes. and jools holland served as host for a short time before zaremba took over. mtv has a thing about people named jools or jules launching shows and then being shown the door.

In all fairness, Jules Shear was a lousy host.

I wasn't aware that Jules Shear was a host too....but I must admit that "Phonetiks" by Jules and the Polar Bears is still a great album. As for his solo stuff....eh.

Oh, Jules Shear was the original host of Unplugged.

jules shear was a spotty songwriter/recording artist at best. but he had some great peaks. and i liked him as the host of "unplugged," doing his anti-mtv, singing-songs-around-the-campfire thing with marty willson-piper, squeeze, syd straw, etc. i loved how underproduced it was. and this was around the time of his best album at the time, the one he made with marty willson-piper, so the songs he sang himself on the show were often pretty good!

Shears and Willson-Piper? I missed that.....the thickening of smoke clouded my head around that time. Yeah, that would have been a good set.

Funny, that Shear record was on I.R.S., too.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 20 May 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

the album they made together is called the third party. circa 1989. it's credited as a jules album but marty's all over it. it's all acoustic, which was a nice change after jules' horribly misguided attempts at dance-pop and other such stuff.

(x-post)
and, yup, it's on I.R.S.
