Pulled out both of these this week after reading David Katz' piece on Scratch in Mojo. I'm gonna go with 'Revolution Dub.'

Revolution Dub and it's not even close.

Super Ape vs. Blackboard Jungle Dub is a real fight though.

David Katz is one of the worst writers I've ever read.

Well book writers, yeah. His notes are actually fine. Small doses, ya know.

Ha ha, Alex! I was just writing: 'Return' is kinda weak, considering it's more or less a sequel to one of his best albums.

That was an xpost to the 'Super Ape'/'Blackboard' remark.

interesting article.

though i felt it could have been a full length 15 pager - afterall this is the story of the Black Ark

.. guess i should read the book proper.

.. i liked the way the font matched the pressure sounds reissue fonts.

hey.

god is in the detail.

You do not want to read the book believe me.

No, he's an interesting subject, but Katz is WAY WAY too dry a writer to do him justice. The reggae book he did is even worse (esp. cuz it is a joke for stopping right at ragga.)

xxxxpost:

Yeah, that kind of stuff is one of my favorite things about Mojo. And I agree that the story could have been a lot longer. It felt like it was just scratching the surface.

But thanks to this issue, now I know every date Liam and Noel Gallagher ever got near an aspirin between '93 and '95.

Actually I don't know that it worse, but it's still bad and it made me angrier. The Reggae Rough Guide is a million times more interesting.

three years pass...

It's cool in that long Bangs piece how Perry greets him with "You wine man," and Bangs is impressed and says something like "I know it might not seem that impressive, one alcoholic recognizing another, but . . . "
