What was the first drug fueled record/recording ever?

I know there are some experts here, i've searched a lot of old threads but didn't find anything. What was the first or earliest drug fueled recording ever?

Also, which were the most realistic, drug fueled records, meaning; on which records can you explicitly hear the influence of drugs? And are there any drug fueled records that still sound trippy and druggy as of today?

Mojo Magazine put out a cover mount CD a few years ago called Feed Your Head in the Dec 2002 issue that featured The 100 Greatest Drugs Songs Ever.

I don't have the magazine at hand but Harry "The Hipster" Gibson appears on the CD with "Who Put the Benzedrine in Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine" and that was from the 40s. Maybe there is something even older on the CD (I'm sure the magazine is helpful in contextualizing the tracks on the CD) but there you go. Whether or not it would count in terms of what you're after, I dunno.

Would anyone be willing to make me a CD of that Mojo CD? Must have!

I've got some Cab Calloway ("Wacky Dust" with references to cocaine). I know there's more stuff from the 30s. It's all on my iPod which isn't at my fingertips, but there is stuff out there from the 30s, maybe even the 20s.

ok let me restate me initial question:

what are the most obvious drug fueled records and artists?

rizzx (rizzx), Sunday, 22 May 2005 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Every high speed pop single of recent years = the creation of cocaine and/or meth (this may be a lie)

A famous drug fuelled record, or solo actually, is the one by Charlie Parker on "Oh Lady be Good" on one of those Jazz at the Phillharmonic records. He missed the first half of the concert because he needed to score and wandered on stage in the middle of this tune to blow one of the most famous and devestating solos ever. At that point I think he was just fixing to feel normal though. It might be interesting to ask about more specific drug types like psychadelics or something.

tangentially related is a book by sadie plant called Writing on Drugs. Very good, especially if you're curious about drug influenced output. some mentions of songs, but more about writers.

There are quite a few recordings of Native American peyote chants -- those go BACK very far of course -- Harry Smith's recording of the Kiowa tribe highly recommended.
