The guy gets a mention here or there in a few threads, but I want some discussion!
Wild instrumental music from the fifties with one foot in bizarre polka jazz and the other dipping a toe in the future of electronic.
I'll drop a track or two if I need to.

it's a terribly terribly amazing record. please do drop tracks!

flat out musique concrete pop, all the sources are acoustic or simple electric instruments, but recorded multi-speed, tracked backwards, doubled with tape delay, etc. with a massive sense of humor and it sounds at all times completely bent. it's out on Basta, same label that did the Dutch Popular Electronics & Raymond Scott reissues and if you liked them...

Boris Vian co-writes some of the songs, which also appeared on his solo albums. Vian went on to collaborate with Bernard Parmegiani at GRM on the track 'L'alcool tue', which is like Delirium with Carl Stalling flooring it into cut-up overdrive

Yeah, Stalling and Scott are definite points of reference, this is cartoon music with OOMPH. Now I need to go slsk some Vian, clearly.
Here's a track for anybody that wants to play:
Andre Popp - "La Polka du Roi"

Vian's a jazz trumpeter, I'm not sure if he's the main trumpet player on Delirium... (I'd check but my copy went missing after a loan)... he's mainly known for his novels, he wrote "I Shall Spit On Your Graves"

Delirium was originally released on Columbia under the psuedonym 'Else Popping and her Pixieland Band' to distinguish it from Andre Popp's other more mainstream singles & albums (and also I think to credit the efforts of the engineer through amalgamation)

andre popp is great, you should check out the "PO...PO....POPP!" lp from 1960

Delerium... is great but I think I prefer his later soundtrack and, er, pop stuff. Check out the Popp Music comp on Tricatel.

Carl Finch of Brave Combo has often called "Delerium" one of his favorite records ever. Brave Combo is one of my favorite bands ever. Therefore...
