"THe Comeback" is an AMAZING, AMAZING single, but despite having heard another couple of great tracks, I'm told the album's really weak.

two years pass...

The new album is about 4/5ths fantastic, especially "Tonight I Have to Leave It".

That's the only song I've heard so far and it's good, in the way that the songs on their first album were good. Doesn't show much growth but still sounds solid.

Not a fan. "Tonight I Have To Leave It" got old fast.

three years pass...

I think these guys are just destined to make albums with 1 or 2 great pop songs and a bunch of filler forever.

one month passes...

haven't listened to these guys in a while — was pretty into Our Ill Wills when it came out, haven't listened to the new one(?) — but one of their songs just came up on shuffle, and damn, damn, damn do they sound good! like, yeah, derivative songwriting* and silly lyrics** aside, they know how to arrange/orchestrate/record a fuckin pop song!!

*: obviously somewhat self-aware — they have a song called "Meat is Murder" fer chrissakes!
**: sometimes charmingly silly! and, okay, sometimes mindboggling ("Are you unhappy? / I am unhappy, too.")

'Optica' out at the end of the month - anyone know who's releasing it in the UK, or am I on an import here? Went to pre-order the vinyl from Merge, $18 for the record and $20 for shipping. Ouch.
