My little brother's listening to The Killers and half the time I hear it from a distance I keep thinking he's got The Chameleons.

I've been listening to them all day (The Chameleons), so maybe it's enhancing that perception?

Hopefully this thread can serve as a reminder to you that he is not actually listening to the Chameleons.

So much I could say. But won't.

people said that adorable sounded like the chameleons

i havent heard the chameleons before. or gang of four (but that is another thread, about 3 threads down i think, just below that one about bloc party)

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Adorable sounded like Echo B-sides. This was a good thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

The way half of the songs on Hot Fuss start (before the drums/vocals kick in) sound like The Chameleons, so maybe that's where I'm becoming perplexed/unnerved.

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

the good Mr Raggett influenced my first Chameleons purchase!

:-D

Haha! I don't think Interpol sound like The Chameleons, though. Josef K transplanted from 80's Edinburgh to 00's NYC with all the necessary changes one would expect from such a transition, more like it.

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 22:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck, the very end of "Mr. Brightside" (where the instruments drop out and the music fades) sounds like the beginning of "In Answer" in reverse!

Seconded!

The very idea that anything by the Killers--much less the vomitous "Mr. Brightside"--could sound like the brilliant "In Answer" gives me a headache.

Ain't it creepy?

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the singers are a bit similar - they've both got a grand declamatory style, although Burgess is a bit lower and maybe a bit less affected.

I could easily imagine The Killers doing a brighter, synthier version of "In Shreds" - it could be great! Or it could be awful.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"Inside Out" might fit their style pretty well.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Tuesday, 24 May 2005 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I have this feeling I've inspired a crop of disciples. Bless you, go in peace...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 22:54 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

My roommate started playing a Killer's song ("Smile Like You Mean It"?) and before I recognized it I thought it funny how the intro sounded vaguely like "Up the Down Escalator" (the drumming especially). Glad other people notice the similarities.

stephen, Sunday, 30 September 2007 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

"Where the Deep Water Goes" is a single and you can get its tracks on B-side comps. Go for either of the first two.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 30 September 2007 23:14 (eighteen years ago)

okay thanks!
