SONGS FOR MY BROTHER'S WEDDING

hey guys, my brother made a request from me for some songs for his wedding - i need your help, ILM... here are the constraints.

1. young professional, late 20's crowd, along with older relatives (by this, i mean that baile funk may fall on deaf ears...)
2. soul of any variety is gonna KILL at this wedding - stax shit and other southern soul, especially, i think
3. rap from 1987-1994 is also going to KILL at this wedding - maybe nothing too explicit (its a family wedding, folks)

the bigger the list, the better! thanks a lot, guys!

Keep it mainstream, songs that people know.

I tell everyone to play "Ventolin" at their wedding because I was unceremoniously shot down when I tried to get it played at my own.

Besides which, given the relatively clear constraints you've laid out, you already know what songs you want to play and you're looking for validation of your picks, so this thread is kind of useless from the get-go.

How's about:

"Blue Skies" - Willie Nelson
"God Only Knows" - Beach Boys
"Just Like A Woman" - Bob Dylan
Shania Twain
James Brown
Kraftwerk

Band Of Gold by Freda Payne is always good at weddings.

(I was once at a wedding where the bride actually did request this, and it went down very well)

The Impressions - Stay Close to Me

There's a few others I could suggest, but I can't think of them while at work. I'll post a few more later, but this one would be great for a soul-loving crowd.

Sanford & Son Theme
Ceremony - New Order

Wow, weddings have come a long way since I've last been to one. It was all organ music back then. I now have visions of the preacher-man doing the running-man during the vows.

Willie Hutch - Lucky to be loved by you

BAD IDEAS:
"Strokin'" by Clarence Carter
"The Chicken Dance"
Rod Stewart popping out of the cake naked to do a medley of classics, including "Strokin'" and "The Chicken Dance"

I strongly echo the "Band of Gold" nom, and a natural segue to The Isley Brothers "Work To Do"

Other songs I must play at weddings:
The Intruders - "We'll Be United"
Brother Cornelius & Sister Rose - "Too Late To Turn Back Now"
Redbone - "Come And Get Your Love"
Gene Chandler - "Groovy Situation"
Jackson 5 - "The Love You Save"

also make sure to have a few slow ones, everyone loves "Chances Are"

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Wednesday, 25 May 2005 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Isley Bros "Between the Sheets" is good for a slow song, plus the old rap headz will dig the "Big Poppa" source.

Khia - My Neck, My Back

one year passes...
I tell everyone to play "Ventolin" at their wedding because I was unceremoniously shot down when I tried to get it played at my own.

This idea intrigues me. But I was thinking more at attempting Windowlicker.
