So is this age in which almost every critic adores atomic kitten, ms. spears and her royal highness kylie minogue comparable to the time when Frankie Goes 2 Hollywoord, ABC et al rose up against the grim background of the (post)punk era?

nupop being the backlash factor to grunge/nu metal?

sort of? no?

I think people just like good records. Not sure where Atomic Kitten fits into this theory.

I can probably count the number of positive "critical" appraisals of Atomic Kitten records on Abu Hamza's left hand.

yeah ok but don't count out my spears/minogue mention

I don't think there's any backlash/reaction. Maybe Pop only got proper critical appraisal in the wake of Punk (I'm thinking off the top of my head here and stand to be corrected). So critical appreciation has been going on since the early 80s uninterruptedly.
