I have been meaning for some time to create a "Sprockets" mix, to be composed strictly of tracks that wouldn't sound out of place as their own Sprocketsy self-parody. I am aware that early N.O.I.A. have already done this for me, but still. Suggest me things! Things that aren't Kraftwerk! My concept of potential Sprocketsism extends out to, like, Einar Orn's Sugarcubes tracks.

The problem is always that half of the stuff that fits the bill succeeds at actually sounding cool, whereas clearly a Sprockets mix would need that not-campy-but-still-campy feel you get from Kraftwerk's rigidity or, you know, Orn's artiness.

"Sprockets" was inspired by Einar, period!

Have you not seen the "Motorcrash" SNL performance from 1988 or so? Einar is totally donning an all black polyester proto-Dieter suit, speaking his thing, and doing robot dances. Months later, the first Sprockets skit debuts (when Michael Meyer joins the SNL cast as an intern. It was one of his first "characters") "Sprockets" was inspired by Einar Örn.

How about Console - "14 Zero Zero"?

mrjosh (mrjosh), Thursday, 26 May 2005 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

That said, you have to end or begin the mix with "Electric Cafe" sped up to 136% its speed (136% is roughly 45 divided by 33. The Sprockets theme is basically "Electric Cafe" from the record album sped up to 45. It also makes a great segue into a jungle/dnb DJ set)

Grauzone's "Eisbär" is urgent and key for this mix.

"Fortune Of The City" by Scott Walker.

"This is completely miserable and repeats the number 21 over and over again. It makes my bowels churn. It is completely brilliant. I give it a 14 out of 10. *CLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAPCLAP* NOW THE CLAPPING MUST STOP!"
