Not that mad fer it actually, Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Might not be but I'll give it an ear regardless.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 May 2005 20:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm disappointed they didn't stick with the original title, Shitting In The Ears Of A Nation of Millions.

Momus (Momus), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Sticky.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It's OK. If you really love everything Oasis have ever done, as too many people I know seem to, you'll love this. If you think their last two albums were poor, you'll possibly really like this.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Turn Up The Sun is a bit of a meh opener.

I like Mucky Fingers, apart from the vocals. Reminds me of the House Of Love, apart from the vocals, despite trying to be Waiting For The Man, apart from the vocals. The vocals are shite.

Ain't heard the rest yet.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

this album.....it stinks

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"Theesa album – she-ah no so goooood."

Mario (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

starts off good , the middle sags, ends good - 5/10
it won't be easy picking singles off this - nothing stands out.
3 good songs,3 ok songs 5 bad songs.
this is more like a bside collection.
won't win any new fans, will dissapoint old fans.
"lyla" isn't a strong song.

fucky mingers, Friday, 27 May 2005 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

their b-side collection was better

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Friday, 27 May 2005 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I just finished listening to this for the second time. It starts off well enough but when I heard it, the first time, I couldn’t help thinking that I was OVER Oasis. The first side is pretty bad, IMO and I wanted to delete from my hard drive. The second side, on the other hand, is pretty good and better than anything from the last three albums. The last three songs starting with "Keep the Dream" are really impressive and made me wish they could have songs that strong for the whole album.

Unless this grows on me, it will be the first Oasis album that I won’t own. This is why I believe in p2p networks, testing before you buy has improved my collection and I only have done that for about a year and a half now.

BeeOK (boo radley), Friday, 27 May 2005 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I think this is the worst title I've ever seen. How fucking retarded does a band have to be before people stop buying their records? Even more retarded than their audience presumably, which in Oasis's case'd prob take a BIT more work.

osis fan (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:05 (twenty-one years ago)

You slay me, Marcello, you really do.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Would it get me back on Uncut if I did?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't try it.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"fist class" haha.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I might try it actually. I feel like cracking open a few Stasist skulls this morning.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

'lyla!' was the lead single. letting that sink in, i don't think the long-player will be up to much.

N_RQ, Friday, 27 May 2005 08:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not even out until Monday and already there are copies going for a fiver downstairs at MVE!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

>"lyla" isn't a strong song.

I share your opinion.

rwillmsen (rwillmsen), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know - Don't Believe The Truth and Demon Days. Has the Britpop dream really shrivelled to these sparse fragments a decade hence? I suppose this is how people must have felt when Venus And Mars was up against Walls And Bridges.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't heard anything by blurrilaz or oasis except the lead singles and albarn is clearly well ahead. better than tin machine or wings, yeah?

N_Rq, Friday, 27 May 2005 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Not as good as Wings, but better than, say, Stop And Smell The Roses by Ringo Starr which INCLUDES THE HIT SINGLE "WRACK MY BRAIN"

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Wings, God they rock

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Listen here. I'm kind of done with Oasis, but I'd say "Keep the Dream Alive" is my favourite song, despite the title.

JoB (JoB), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

This has been album of the week on R2. What I have heard...it's just more of the same, isn't it? More of the same.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Downloaded "Keeping The Dream Alive" on Soulseek, and it sounds really great. Of course, this is nothing people who didn't like "(What's The Story) Morning Glory) will possibly like, but then, lots of people did and do still love that album.

Btw. is that Andy Bell singing lead vocals on that track?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The title alone makes me furious that Oasis exist.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Does it live up to the standards of the 1988 Xmas hit "Keeping The Dream Alive" by Freiheit?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I've always thought that Jerry the Nipper was more like Harry Ipcress crossed with Joe 90 than a Stasi official.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:37 (twenty-one years ago)

HE'LL BE MORE LIKE HARRY WORTH CROSSED WITH THE TORREY CANYON DISASTER IF HE DOESN'T WATCH IT DON'T FACKEN TRY IT

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, there is a Harry Worth element.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

is that Andy Bell singing lead vocals on that track?

He's also written it. I'd like to point any Andy Bell googlers towards "Whiteshadow" by DK7 on Output Recordings, on which he plays guitar, one of my favourite dance records from 2004.

I like 'Keep the Dream,' 'Guess God Thinks I'm Abel,' but neither of those tunes were written by Noel -

Anybody know if there are more “truth” albums in store for the ever-lovin’, music-grubbin’ global community this year?

God, I hope Mayer and Cross do a “2005 Year In Review” thing for SPIN.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

It's the best thing ever obviously. If you don't like it then you are a twat who is jealous of their ability to pull fit ladies like Patty Kensit and Meg Ryan, and their skillz at copying 1978 Kinks B-sides.

two months pass...
Omigosh, I have to weigh in here. I don't know WHAT I was thinking, but i downloaded this the other night, mostly because the lil' woman has a soft spot for (What's the Story) Morning Glory, and we had a solid 45 minute to drive into Brooklyn to see a show. I was mildly curious.

THIS RECORD IS 100% DOGSHIT. The lyrics are fucking offensively bad, probably the most unimaginative I've ever heard. I asked Jessica out loud at one poiunt "Are these lyrics fucking IMPROVISED??!?" And I was only half-joking.

I hate it when people exaggerate. I try not to. So believe me when I say that I literally threw this CD from the car window when it was over. I mean, I really just did not even want it in the car.

I like the idea that some lucky (or unlucky) Oasis fan will find the brand new album on the ground at a bus stop in Greenpoint, though.

Paper Money = Death of Christ (Roger Fidelity), Saturday, 27 August 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
I have no emotional ties to Oasis, not a big fan nor a hater. I have to admit this ain't half bad. Of course I only paid 6 bucks for it used.

Jim Reckling (Jim Reckling), Sunday, 11 December 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

I agree with this. I was never a huge Oasis fan - this is the only one of their albums I've heard all the way through, but despite its uneven qualities, I don't think it's particularly terrible. The middle section, about tracks 5-8, I think are the highlight. And I noticed that the 3 or 4 that I considered the best from this album were among the only Oasis songs from 2005 not included in that Q poll results thing listed here.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Sunday, 11 December 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

I personally think that "The Importance of Being Idle" is one of the better tracks that Noel (or any of them) has written in years. Great Kinks-like vibe goin' on in that one.

Also, some of the b-sides from this album have been great. "Pass Me Down the Wine", "The Quiet Ones" even "Sitting Here in Silence (On My Own) is pretty decent.

And they have a new track called "Who Put the Weight of the World on My Shoulders" that's also decent. Rumour has it they'll be working together with Kasabian on some new stuff. I personally think that would be killer.

Erock Lazron, Sunday, 11 December 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

WORST. BAND. EVER.
