Lord Custos Omicron (Lord Custos Omicron), Friday, 27 May 2005 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i prefer inner dialogue.

a collectivist romantic fling! (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 27 May 2005 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

not at all amusing, actually, but that's no surprise.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 27 May 2005 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

it amazes me how often people conflate embarrassing and unfashionable with bad.

Al (sitcom), Friday, 27 May 2005 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Most of those songs aren't bad, but many of them do belong on a list like this:

Ladies and Gentlemen...The 40 Most OMGWTFLOL(ROFFLE) Songs Of The 90s.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 27 May 2005 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

That list is bullshit. At least half of those songs are Classic. Sophie B. Hawkins? Sisqo? Kelis? Ginuwine? Fuck you, indie cornballs.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Friday, 27 May 2005 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i like how they diss "if you wanna be my lover" (sic) by the spice girls.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 27 May 2005 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

59. "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eiffel 65
Erick: This song is so bad the lead singer committed suicide. I guess he was blue.
Josephus: We were forced to listen to this song as Pledges in my fraternity. HELP ME.

Please tell me this is true (about the singer).

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 27 May 2005 06:23 (twenty-one years ago)

did he die in aberdeen?

jed_ (jed), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

"Fast Car" came out in 1988, i.e. 17 years ago.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I can sorta see why most of these songs made the list (i.e. they're easy targets for elitist hipsters), but the logic behind their number one choice escapes me... Surely there are zillions of songs more worthy of hating than "Never Gonna Leave You"?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, I've seen lists like this before but not one where I like every single one of their Top 10.*

*caveat: haven't heard Blaque or the South Park Mexican

Tom (Groke), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, as always with these lists, it includes maybe twenty of my favourite songs of the last 15 years.

One thing I've always wondered about "worst of" lists, that they always consist almost exclusively of pop, dance, and rap/r'n'b, with a couple of mainstream rock hits thrown in so it wouldn't look *too* elitist. Aren't there any awful indie/metal/tehno/etc. songs in existence?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:18 (twenty-one years ago)

It's sort of Geir's idea of the worst songs of the last 15 years, isn't it?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Currently listening to: "Why Do You Love Me?" by Garbage

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how one of them puts Rammstein on there because they're "offensive", and the other then says that "Du Hast" is worse than the execution of 6 million Jews, blacks, homosexuals, Catholics, trade unionists, and disabled people.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually I'm not totally sure I've heard this particular Rammstein song either, the nuances of Rammstein's corpus are somewhat lost on me but they seem pretty consistent.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I found JK and Joel's Radio 1 Top 40 Show comments on Rammstein, as recently reported by Mr Swygart of this parish, much more offensive than Rammstein and arguably one of the factors which leads to the execution of 6 million Jews, etc.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

What's offensive about Rammstein? It's not like they're Nazis or anything, plus they have a sense of humour.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I seem to remember someone accusing them of being Nazis round about the time David Lynch used some of their stuff in the soundtrack to Wild At Heart, but offhand I can't remember who said it or why they said it.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

You mean Lost Highway, right? I can't imagine them being Nazis; I dunno much about the band, but from what I gather they sound more like leftists.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, this list lost me at Tracy Chapman. But I do hate about 65% of the songs on here, so that's what, like a D or something.

mrjosh (mrjosh), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Their latest album has a song criticizing American imperialism and McDonaldization of the world - sounds like your basic Euro-leftists, no?

(x-post)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:57 (twenty-one years ago)

To be fair, the Nazis would've been against McDonaldization and American imperialism. However, no Nazi has ever knowingly possessed a sense of humour, so I think we can rule Rammstein out.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the Nazi claim may come from their visual imagery, but from what I've heard they've always taken it with a pinch of salt (I saw a video of their stage show where the singer, dressed in macho leather clothes, pulls a fake penis out of his pants and starts to shoot bucketfuls of "sperm" over the front row). Besides, what metal band wouldn't have flirted with fascist imagery?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Or punk band, for that matter.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't remember "Wobble Wobble" but I can remember people dancing to it.

Ian Riese-Moraine's Plateau Rouge! (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"I'll Be There for You" is the reason I've never seen an episode of "Friends."

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:52 (twenty-one years ago)

IF YOU HATE THE 90'S YOU HATE MUSIC

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I do hate almost every song on this list. Problem is, reading the comments I can't help thinking that if they made a list of the best 100 songs of the past 15 years I'd hate every one of those too.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

51. "Milkshake" by Kelis
[gasp]

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

The comments are absymal. Fuck these kids in the eye.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 27 May 2005 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

that looks my fav singles list.

Nic de Teardrop (Nicholas), Saturday, 28 May 2005 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

these guys can't write and have no taste

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 28 May 2005 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

haha and I love that Good Charlotte and Limp Bizkit barely made the countdown.

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 28 May 2005 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)
