so should I go see them in 2025, with The Dwarves opening? tempted tbh
― sleeve, Sunday, 9 March 2025 22:47 (one year ago)
If you've never seen them before? Absolutely. I feel like I saw them at their peak (1997, touring behind Dopesick) but I'm sure they're still good, and there's probably less risk that the show will devolve into junkie chaos.

haha ok! I admit I'm tempted
― sleeve, Sunday, 9 March 2025 22:58 (one year ago)
blah, let's say "seriously thinking about it"
― sleeve, Sunday, 9 March 2025 22:59 (one year ago)
I was going to say they were great when I saw them a few years ago but turns out it was 12 years ago, oof
― Colonel Poo, Sunday, 9 March 2025 23:01 (one year ago)
hey that's good though! 1997=great, 2012=great, I'll take those odds
― sleeve, Sunday, 9 March 2025 23:04 (one year ago)
I did skip them playing here this tour but that was because it was mid December and I was already going to 4 or 5 things that week and something had to go

Their 2014 self-titled album is so good. (Their 2021 album? Not so good.)

self titled might be their best... production on the last one was a bummer
saw eyehategod many times including a weird emotional post-katrina show in early 2006 at the howlin wolf where they played for what felt like 2-3 hours. pretty sure i saw kirk from crowbar weeping in a corner.
would absolutely see them in 2025 with the dwarves

seen em twice, once in iirc 99 or 00 and that was seriously the harsh vibes era...something magical about how fucked up it felt, that's really a rare energy, when the show feels like a bad omen. next time was like twenty years later and we were playing in the same building, I said hey at their soundcheck and caught part of the show later and it's like a very positive thing now, these guys who by rights should have died a while back but they're still doing the thing and it's pretty beautiful

For real. That 1997 show (they were opening for Neurosis) was one of the darkest vibes I've ever felt in a room. Mike was hanging onto the mic stand like it was all that was keeping him upright, and the rest of the band was staring at him like if he fell over they'd leave him there. It's on YouTube, but the video doesn't really convey the intensity of it.

The second time I saw them, at CBGB in 1999 or 2000, Mike wasn't even with them — he was in jail or something, so one of their roadies was on vocals. I met their guitarist by the pool table and he was wearing one of the greatest hats I've ever seen: a black baseball cap with a baphomet pentagram on the front and the words "The New South" written underneath. I have coveted that hat for a quarter century.

Saw them in Belfast in 2010, saw them in Belfast in 2024. They were fuckin great both times. Go!

Never saw them live, but I saw Corrections House open for Sleep back in 2014.

lol I feel like any bill with the Dwarves on it ends up cursed.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 10 March 2025 14:21 (one year ago)
I saw the Dwarves in the mid 90s, with Fear and Elvis Hitler. The guitarist was flicking lit cigarettes into the crowd every couple of songs, and the singer threw his Freddie Mercury-style half mic stand at someone at the end of the set.
