...except Jake, who suffers the biggest pitfall of being a male child actor: deliver one laugh line and then exit the set as quickly as possible. Seriously, that kid's always leaving in the middle of scenes because he told a funny.

Lex compares Bobbie Gentry's "Fancy" to The-Dream's:

i genuinely thought the-dream would've meant that, the comparison seems so neat, but he'd never heard the bobbie gentry version. but he did write down her name to look it up after i explained what it was about!

First song in 2009 that made he hit repeat and listen all over again, more than once: "Where Is Bobbie Gentry" on Jill Sobule's "California Years." Not that this has anyting to do with Reba or "Fancy." I should also note that Bobbie's "Fancy" was one of the first 45s I ever owned. My mother gave it to me....

I have a student who is like a MANIACAL Reba fan. For example, every time I see her working in the library, she's like "Yeah, I was up all night tweeting with Reba." She enters contests and shit.
She was going apeshit about this song and I thought I would give it a try. Verdict: surprisingly poignant! And a great opportunity for teaching unreal conditionals.
