Virgin Radio plays about 50 tracks in rotation, and thats all.

"These are people who died"

tremendoid (tremendoid), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

STP "Plush" and Pearl Jam "Alive" could also qualify as some of the most overplayed Modern Rock Radio recurrents of the past decade. Someone out there is digging hearing these dinosaur cuts over and over and over.

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Beck's "Where It's At". They don't seem to know he's released four albums since this came out.

Jonathan Lee (JonG), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"Creep" by Radiohead (likewise Jonathan's Beck reasons)

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

"Date Rape" by Sublime

OMG I could never hear this again and it would be one time too many.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I WANT MORE SILVERCHAIR ON TEH RADIOOOOOO

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Pixies - Here Comes Your Man.

The thing about Radiohead's Creep is that, honestly, for YEARS it's been a massive hit, it changed in the last months, but for some reason people kept asking for it since it's release 'till a year ago. It doesn't sound that often anymore. I cant speak from my experience as both, programmer and radio DJ in Mexico City. Nowadays all those people want to hear is Muse... they moved onto those who were listening and asking for Creep a few years back. Fortunately we work ina very diferent way than Virgin and american radio stations, I was reading that they use a catalog of 500 songs tops, ours goes around 4,000.

elgolfo (elgolfo), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't even listen to the radio that much, but it is impossible to listen to K-Rock without hearing "Jeremy" and "Heart Shaped Box"

Candicissima (candicissima), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Who covers this format well in NYC?

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I was about to ask.. WTF station are you listening to that plays Joy Division Alex?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I was about to ask.. WTF station are you listening to that plays Joy Division Alex?

Are you suggesting that "Love Will Tear Us Apart" isn't by now a hackneyed "alternative radio" clliche?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Who covers this format well in NYC?

All commercial radio in NYC sucks

Candicissima (candicissima), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll second that. NYC 88-94 (ah, the glory days of WLIR/WDRE); LA 94-2005, I have yet to hear "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on the radio.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, same here. Hackeneyed as it may be in all other respects, I have never heard "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on the radio (Detroit 94-98, NYC 98-now).

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

hackneyed indie film cliche surely, but searching my memory, I don't think I've heard it on the radio either.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Indie 103.1 in LA plays "Love Will Tears Us Apart" every now and then.

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Corny indie typo, etc etc.

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez, I would LOVE to hear "Here Comes Your Man" or "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on the radio!!

You guys really need to travel to the midwest and see how bad we have it.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"I Wanna Be Sedated"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

my local alt station plays Dynamite Hack's "Boyz N The Hood" EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I used to think this was some bizarre anomoly that managed to stay on their playlist for so long, but then one day they played a call of someone requesting it, and now I'm not so sure.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 29 May 2005 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

also: Sponge's "Plowed". every single day.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 29 May 2005 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you suggesting that "Love Will Tear Us Apart" isn't by now a hackneyed "alternative radio" clliche?

In the early 90's glory days of CFNY 102.1 in Toronto, it was played from time to time but never enough to become a cliche.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 29 May 2005 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Australian "Alternative" Radio is so hung up on playing Australian music it's ridiculous. Most of it is shit, especially the awful awful awful fucking "Ozzy 'ip-'op" fucking hell. No one wants to hear about you having BBQs and catching a train. On top of that the music is so shit, limp-fuck attempts at reggae-ish piano stab grooves... lame as shit.

Worst! Music! Ever!

Nic de Teardrop (Nicholas), Sunday, 29 May 2005 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)
