Is Anyone Else Surprised That Paul McCartney Didn't Acknowledge Linda Much In Lyrics After Her Death?

Ok.. So we now that Macca moved on quick to "Heather", but is anyone else surprised that he never wrote much in the way of tributes to "The Lovely Linda."

Of course, maybe this was so painful that even he couldn't write lyrics about the experience. OR maybe too private or too personal to commercialize, OR paying respect to new Ms. McCartney, OR maybe there's hidden meanings in the post-Linda material that I just ain't gettin..

OR maybe he just ain't gotten there yet..

He did move on pretty swiftly, didn't he. Is he still a vegetarian, I wonder?

for all of macca's crass commercialism, i am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and agree with

OR maybe too private or too personal to commercialize,

She was a two-legged bird
A Sarah Lawrence girl,
Now she's hit the big time
Beyond the mortal world
And if she could only hear me...

Okay, enough of that.

not everybody is eric clapton.

Thank fucking Christ for that.

mccartney's never been one to pour out his journal into his songs has he? his most 'julia' like song is still probably the one about the sheepdog.

"here today" would surely come close to being journalesque.

FROM A LOVER TO A FRIEND PEOPLE!

Indeed -- great song, too...

My favorite Macca song of all time is his cover of "No Other Baby," on "Run Devil Run." Never in my wildest weed fantasies did I ever think a Macca tune would make me weep.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Try Not to Cry," from Run Devil Run, was as much of a personal statement of pain as he was willing to offer. Which I thought was more than enough.

"He put his hand in my pants," the boy said in a near whisper. "He started masturbating me."

there's a few songs on Driving Rain that seem to acknowledge this, as I remember it. (I loaned it to a friend and never saw it again, oh well.)

Yes, well, it's available used for $2.50 at a record store near you...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I should pick one up! I like that record, actually, and I'm no one's idea of a solo McCartney fan, generally speaking.

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Ya couldn't play
ya couldn't sing
ya couldn't do much of anything
but I loved you just the same, Linda

Unfortunate Prankster (Unfortunate Prankster), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

For only 500,000 pounds an hour, you can hire McCartney for a private occassion and ask him...

Having helped my mother die, I picked up The Fireman's "Rushes". The Fireman is Paul working with Youth from The Orb. Paul was recording this at roughly the time that Linda was wasting away. It's hard to describe, but Rushes were the sorts of sounds that my mother responded to as she slipped away. For that reason, "Rushes" seems like a really personal record to me, the sound of depression at losing a loved one, the sound of helping a person in pain to relax.

I should probably download it at some point...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not sure whether his current wife would be too keen on having him writing a couple of songs to Linda each time around. There was one tribute to each on his last solo album (the first after Linda's death) though.

so he killed her, is what you're all saying.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

macca sure paid enough living tributes to the 'lovely'

through our love
the lovely linda
with a little luck
hi hi hi
etc..

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I always thought that the "Flaming Pie" album was completely suffused with his knowledge that she was coming to the end of her life. Check out "Calico Skies"...

Lest we forget the immortal Ode To the Clitoris, "Press To Play"...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Driving Rain people, the whole album is about the loss of Linda and finding new love with Heather. He's a little more subtle than many give him credit for.
