Listening to it now. It's even worse than I had anticipated, which is saying a lot.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

You expected it to be so bad that you couldn't wait to hear it? PUH-LEAZE.

Huk-L, Monday, 30 May 2005 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I wanted it give it a chance instead of lambasting it without hearing it. I'm not a Coldplay hater, in fact I like quite a few songs from their first two records, but everythingI've heard from this has been dire.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha nice try dude! you love coldplay.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Sure.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

LOOOOOOOOVE them.

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

argh - i hate rapidshare so so SO much.

Sean M (Sean M), Monday, 30 May 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

So, using the original poster's logic, that means you LOVE rapidshare.

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Monday, 30 May 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Huk-L, Monday, 30 May 2005 17:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Garbage.

freiden4xl, Monday, 30 May 2005 17:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm two tracks in, and I'm falling asleep. I think they let the accolades from P Diddy and Justin Timberlake get to their heads -- i.e. those guys were saying that they found Coldplay's music to be so uplifting, poignant, barf -- and thus, they've gone full-throttle "let's write sensitive heart-wrenching ballads with a touch of 'Urban Hymns' thrown in there".

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 30 May 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Leakage? EW! Plug it up already!

Ian Riese-Moraine betta run and grab your clock! (Eastern Mantra), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Is "Speed of Sound" supposed to sound exactly like "Clocks"? Did they think that nobody would notice this?

"Talk" (aka "Computer Love") and "Fix You" are OK because they crank up the volume a bit and play with some energy, but lordy, the ballads are megaboring.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Hasn't this album been hyped as a big sonic departure from their first two albums? Maybe I'm missing some textures because of the low quality sound files, but this sounds exactly like their other stuff.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

With synths!

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, with a few synths. But nobody is going to confuse this with the work of another band. Basically, fans who were yearning for "A Rush of Blood To the Head -- the Return" will be thrilled with this album, and everybody else will hate it. Same old, same old.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

This is even worse than I thought it would be, and I think Parachutes is almost a masterpiece.

Sean M (Sean M), Monday, 30 May 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Not exactly the mind-blowing awesomeness that is Parachutes, nor is there anything as good as "Clocks" or "God Put a Smile on Your Face". But it's still good dammit!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Monday, 30 May 2005 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

FYI downloaders, the above link is .wmas at 64kbps.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 30 May 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

This album is good. More of the same, but sometimes there's nothing wrong with that.

a. begrand (a begrand), Monday, 30 May 2005 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

This isn't one of those times.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Monday, 30 May 2005 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

This is good stuff. It's a tad too self-aware, but it's not over the top, it's extremely beautiful in places, it doesn't reach for too much, and they've got chops. I never would have guessed back when Parachutes was released that Coldplay would evolve to this, but I like it. Fix You, What If, and Talk are great.

Wookie Rookie (Wookie Rookie), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

This is the album I honestly expected U2 to make when they started to increase the back to basics bluster, instead of their last two. Sort of a cross between "Zooropa" and "Unforgettable Fire," I guess. The backing vox on "Fix You" even sound totally wall-of-Eno.

Anyway, I really like what I've heard so far, but I also like boring music. But this is so much better boring music than, say, Keane.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

can someone put this on YSI? thanks!

supertwerp (supertwerp), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Lyrics are totally banal crap, though, which underscores the U2 comparisons. And portends a monster smash.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree. Good as this album is (and it is good!), the lyrics are absolutely TERRIBLE.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i agree about the lyrics, i like the review on allmusic, which harps on Chris Martin's Solipsism.

JD from CDepot, Tuesday, 31 May 2005 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

can anyone say "U2 Rip-Off"?

it's hard to say but i actually respect U2 more than these guys

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I got hook up last night on the soul network. I will say fuck all the haters as this is pretty good, but than again I’m a fan. If you liked them in the past than great otherwise it is just the same thing, which is fine with me.

It is so much better than that piece that Oasis is calling a come back.

BeeOK (boo radley), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 08:38 (twenty-one years ago)

And it IS better than Crazy Frog!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

So every cloud HAS a yellow lining?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The leaked version of Talk, other than that Kraftwerk riff, is totally different from the leaked Talk from a couple of months ago. I prefer the older one. Anyone know what happened? Did the band rewrite it after the leak?

dmun drive-in (dmun), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked parachutes.

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

after really giving this a listen i have to say that it's actually quite good. nothing great but still pretty nice

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Please retitle thread: "Coldplay anal leakage". It just seems so much more descriptive of the subject at hand...

John Justen (johnjusten), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

can someone repost the whole album?
i'm curious

breezy, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

wow "fix you" is really good.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

guy's cell phone just rang in the office and the ringtone was coldplay's "talk" with c.martin singing over the kraftwerk melody

important news, needed sharing imo

Nice time warp you've got.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 18 February 2011 17:07 (fifteen years ago)

the godlike, beautiful, falsetto-filled vocals of christopher martin transport me to a long forgotten place
