Relatively Cheap Used Record Stores in NYC?

My friend went down to TN for a week or two, and scored tons of great albums for an average price of about $3.50. Here in NYC pretty much every store I went to sells used records/CDs for like, $8 or so.. (and if you go to a shop like Gimmee Gimmee that specializes in used records, probably triple that).. are there any stores that have good stuff for around $3 or $4? I know Kim's has a $1 bin, but pretty much every record there is trash.

You can find decent albums in the "unsorted" boxes at the Academy (19th St).

I used to think this (and said so a few times on ILM), too, but I'm not so sure anymore. I just found the first Nona Hendryx album (1977 major label black lesbian disco-leaning Labelle-member hard rock) and an early '80s Instant Funk LP and a Mighty Sparrow LP for 50 cents (not $1) each there this past Friday; would have paid 50 cents for Joe Ely's *Honky Tonk Masquerade* (which was right in front!) too, if I didn't already own a copy. Found a whole big pile of stuff there a few weeks ago (Hounds, Grupo Sportivo, Expose' 12" when they were still called Xposed, etc -- I posted the whole list somewhere on this board.) So Kim's doesn't bug me anywhere as much as it used to.

what are these "great albums" you speak of? and how much do they differ from xhuxk's idea of same?
