Wouldn't er Homelands be the place for that kinda thing?
― ledge (ledge), Friday, 3 June 2005 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)
No, this is a LA artpunk band who use lots of metal percussion and really should have spent 30 seconds on a search engine before settling on a name.
You can kill this thread if you want by the way - didn't see that one way down there

That;s like telling a rock fan why go to ATP when you can go to The Reading Festival?
Homelands is a homogenised, all-bases covered, lowest commom denominator packaged festival - whereas ATP is a single-artist, single-vision-focused event relating to one person's interests.
I don't see why Ellen Allien couldn't put together an immense line up of variety, depth and fun which would appeal to an ATP crowd - have you heard any of her mixes?

Check out her 'Weiss Mix' and 'My Parade' mixes for starters - and also take time to listen to her albums: 'Berlinette' is probably my favourite, but she also has a new one out. All these are on Bpitch Control which is her own label.

I think even M.I.A. & Diplo would be more likely to get the call right now!
To explain, I lurk a bit on littledetroit & other forums and I hear even less talk about her on there (more strictly 'techno' places than here), than in other forums that may have heard of her from the crossover attention 'Berlinette' got (blame Thom Yorke).
I guess what I'm saying is I don't get out dancing enough as it is, and live much too far away from where 'it' may be 'at' to have any idea how popular she really is right now. Or exactly what demographic is picking up on her (and Bpitch Control!) generally.
Suggestion totally seconded btw :-)

I think that for all the (self-mythologising?) talk of ATP being forward-thinking and different, The Mars Volta (for all their charms) are a bit of a safe choice, and the other acts seem safe too.

All you Plaid-haters beware, she would probably get them in too.

I agree though, they should avoid tying the brand to a particular style before it gets too rigid. Or maybe it already has now :-/
xpost - haha All Techno's Parties sounds great!

I'm still wondering if there are any artists (as curators) who could genuinely overcome the rock/dance dichotomy though.
