Most of these songs were never labeled techtrance though.

Back in the day (all my track recommendations are from '95-'95) "trance" was a catch-all label for all sorts of stuff that wouldn't even be called trance nowadays. There weren't any subcategories yet, but I tried to pick tracks that have a techno feel to them. Seriously, if you aren't familiar with "Requiem Pt. 1", "Wavespeech" or early Air Liquide (especially the Nephology LP and the tracks the Black compilation), check that shit out. It still sounds awesome!

"the tracks from the Black compilation"

tylero (tylero), Sunday, 19 June 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 19 June 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG tyler is that where you got the dj name??

More trance-not-trance from outer spaaaaaaace

Tuomas, I know all those tracks, and yes, they do fall between early 90s techno and trance, but the term "Techtrance" itself is recognized as a distinct sound/subgenre (full-on dark, driving trance with busy/syncopated techno percussion without any of the familiar trance melodramaticism, Marco V/Katana/etc).

Siegbran (eofor), Sunday, 19 June 2005 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

One of the record stores here (staffed by morons) puts all the bangin dancefloor techno (primate, tronic, etc etc stuff) in the 'tech-trance' bin. I have to look around the shop and make sure nobody I know is there watching me before I paw through them. ;)I don't know how I'd take it if somebody saw me looking in the 'trance' section.

Ah, it's been so long since I actively followed what's going on with electronic music, that I've lost it with all the subcategories.
