Where should i start with these bands?

I'm not usually a fan of best ofs or greatest hits compliations, so would favour starting with their best studio albums.

Sisters: what Scrovula said, but also Some Girls Wander By Mistake. it's a compilation, but not a best of/greatest hits, just a collection of their great early singles (Alice, Temple Of Love, Reptile House EP).

Banshees: Once Upon A Time, I guess. It'll at least let you see which period you think you might like best.

As has been said on other threads, the most recent Fall compilation is untouchable for Fall virgins.

Not necessarily the best album overall but the best ones to start with and ignoring best-of's:

Sisters of Mercy - Some Girls Wander By Mistake (a comp. of sorts, but not a "best-of" as such)
Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
The Fall - The Complete Peel Sessions (a comp. of sorts, but not a "best-of" as such)

Stereolab - Couldn't tell ya. I do like what I've heard of theirs, though.
The Fall - Toughie. Lots to choose from. Maybe pick up the A-Sides compilation. If nothing there grabs you, move on.
The Clash - I'd start with the first record.
Shellac - Meh. I'd sooner suggest Big Black, but Action Park if you must.
Dream Theater - Kill yourself. Really. Slash your wrists. Dunk your head in a fishtank of sulfuric acid for even considering this.
Siouxsee & the Banshees - I'm inclined to say you cannot go wrong here....well, maybe take your time before rushing out to buy Join Hands or The Rapture. Why not start with The Scream or maybe Hyaena?

Roxy Music: Definitely For Your Pleasure. Not their best (Standed is) but the best introduction to their sound and overall Roxy-ness.

The Clash: It begins and ends with London Calling. But if you want to get creative, start with Super Black Market Clash, an expansion of the Black Market Clash EP. Tons of great songs.

Stereolab: Transient.....

I'd go with "Stranded" for Roxy, just because of "Amazona," which is so fucking amazing. And obviously the first Clash album, altho if you could get the Cost of Living EP on its own (can you?) I'd say that one, it always came across as something with so much heart and soul. And Stereolab--well, my favorite is still "Dots and Loops," some great super-pop moments on there. The Fall, I have no idea, maybe "Witch Trials," and I have a soft spot for "Curious Oranj" myself.

Roxy Music start with Roxy Music or any of the first three really (For Your Pleasure or Strander).
Stereolab start with Switched On Volume 1 or Transient Noise.
The Fall start Hex Enduction Hour or After The Gramme!
Shellac start with Big Black's Atomizer.

Roxy Music's first is one of the most unique and startling debuts in rock history. I would highly recommend starting there and then picking others up sequentially thereafter. IMO, starting with "Stranded" or "Country Life" -- essential albums both -- and then backtracking misses the band's progression, the sense of reining in the chaos, learning to play their instruments and make more technically accomplished records.
