Classic

Know one will really get them until it's 20 years from now.

They're just a Fun Political band.

Michael Costello (MichaelCostello1), Thursday, 30 June 2005 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

My roommate in college was WAY into them, and our parties inevitably devolved into some form or another of Jamiroquai/Stevie Wonder/Sly Stone mega mix. I have fond memories.

"Virtual Insanity" was awesome. I wish I had that track with me.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 30 June 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha classic! "Canned Heat" is a disco anthem, make no mistake.

Roz (Roz), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Now THIS is the band that'll be revered by tomorrow's hipsters after the fact!

I bought and enjoyed Travelling Without Moving many many years ago, but haven't really been into them in years. They're a bit silly, but that's never been a crime has it?

If I remember correctly, I listed under "Favorite Bands" in my high school yearbook: Underworld, Jarmiroquai. HAHA :(

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, revered by tomorrow's hipsters would be an excellent album title.

(Although Underworld eternally untouchable and classic obv.) xpost

regardless of musical merit, the liner notes to Emergency on Planet Earth are some of the most "oh my god, I want to punch you so so bad" things ever.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Zack, So OTM, you have become the M. I remember being slightly inebriated and reading that after a particularly stupid day of classes. I think I said "Stevie Wonder should beat your ASS for these liner notes!"

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 30 June 2005 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

clashic. sounds so good and campy and boppy it makes me dance stupidly.

katie, a princess (katie, a princess), Thursday, 30 June 2005 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Bfizzle, Thursday, 30 June 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Candicissima (candicissima), Thursday, 30 June 2005 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Does Napoleon Dynamite dance to a Jamiroquai song in that school assembly scene?

PB, Thursday, 30 June 2005 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

eight years pass...

Well, my efforts to rehabilitate this band seem doomed to failure, so I'll steal an old story from popbitch:

Jamiroquai lost a bassist at some point in the late 90s and a friend-of-a-friend put in for the role. He turned up to an audition and played some tunes with the band for a while. All going swimmingly, so well in fact that afterwards he and the drummer hung around and jammed on their own for a while, just the two of them. After finishing up, the bassist leaves the studio to find Jay Kay in the car park, setting about the doors of his ford focus with a two-by-four.

"What the hell are you doing?! I thought that went well"
Jay turns to him: "Get yourself a better car, mate ... you've just joined Jamiroquai!"
"It's my mum's car"

i soooooo want this to be true as after years of snobbery re this band.
this week i have picked up several of their albums via the joy that is poundland, and damn, i am enjoying them a lot more than i expected.
young me would be so angry at old as f*ck me now.
but i care not.
daft punk do 70s disco = joyous, press love.
jamiroquai do 70s disco = shrug, same as it ever was.

Jamarocky. Always hated this band back in the day. They had this Chili Peppers factor I couldn't abide. I bet I'd like them now though.

now I'm the grandfather (dog latin), Friday, 16 May 2014 09:43 (twelve years ago)

i dont hear any rhcp factor, just fun disco pop.

mark e, Friday, 16 May 2014 10:08 (twelve years ago)

A friend of mine got me into jamiroquai a couple of years ago. I had dismissed them pretty much until then.Jay Kay doesn't do himself any favours though in fairness. "Alright" is my fave jamiroquai jam.

The best thing about Jamiroquai was Stuart Zender.

I remember being pleasantly surprised by "Love Foolosophy" on TOTP long after I stopped semi- paying attention. sure the guitar in the chorus bites Stardust/Fate, but lessons well learned and this is way before "Get Lucky" pulled some of the same moves.
