James Blunt and Joe Cocker step forward.

Crooning "You (are) (so) Beautiful, to me"

=

"You're not actually that good looking, but you'll do for me"

Umm, that's not actually a question, is it?

OK, other songs that you read between the lines to.

Alright, here's another...

"Called up to see you, tell you I'm sorry, you don't know how lovely you are ahaaaah"

= I screwed up, and am trying to get out of it with lame compliments.

The subtext of many a Coldplay song is "OK, I fucked up, but I'm sorry, can we please shag again?" No wonder I fucking hate them.

Eric Clapton, "Wonderful Tongiht" = "I got drunk at the party, you had to take me home early, I'm sorry I embarassed you.... baby, you look great...."

"baby i'm pissed but you're still getting me hard...hic...vote enoch..."

that whole song! it's all - you asked me, 'do I look alright?' and I said 'yer lovely' because I would say anything to keep you sleeping with me.

'you were always on my mind' kind of rules this, except it's not even subtext.

It's either "I would say anything to keep you sleeping with me" or "I would say anything to shut you up right now". It should be banned from all wedding dances.

Heck! The DJ for our final dance at our wedding played "You don't have to say you love me"! And I know he wasn't being ironic as he announced with great pride about it being the latest song from "Army Army" star Denise Welsch, that he'd got sooo in advance!

Of course it was "Hang the DJ" after that. or it should have been.
