What are the best songs off Dreamboat Annie? Is there anything else worth picking up?

Curly, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

White Lightning and Wine is my favorite song on Dreamboat Annie, but Magic Man has always been good to me for karaoke....

temeraire (r h), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

I still have a soft spot for "Crazy on You." If you like Dreamboat Annie, there are similar Zep-lite sounds to be found on Little Queen, Magazine and Dog & Butterfly. After that they went for a more AOR approach which I don't like nearly as well, although those records have their fans.

I always get a little smile on my face when "Barracuda" comes on the classic rock station during Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas!

"Little Queen" is a great fucking album

"Crazy On You" and "Magic Man" are unassailable.

I've always hated "Barracuda."

dudes! what about "All I Wanna Do is Make Love to You" (on some best-of?) - hokieness to the classique-rock max, right down to the hilarious planting a tree/fucking methaphors and the bizaare Meat Loaf-lite Rutger Hauer cum Who-is-that-Third-that-Walks-Beside you narrative

blast this driving back into London at night from some soul-deadened hinterland in your whatever

feel the bigness as Big Tim might say

I love "Barracuda", but y'know, everybody loves that one. I heard "Magic Man" last week while driving around Long Island, and I'll be damned if I didn't find myself hugely enjoying it.

All das hits have been mentioned, but I will reiterate some rockist love for Crazy on You.

I thought I was sick to death of "Barracuda", but somehow hearing it in San Andreas gives it a new lease of life. Same seems to happen with a lot of the music on GTA:SA.

Never heard Dog & Butterfly in its entirety, but got the remastered version on its way via an Amazon seller for $3. A friend at work who used to be a rock photographer in the 70s brought in some photos of Heart from 1980. It seemed like just a few years on the road was hard on them, as they weren't half as cute as on the cover of their first album. Or maybe it's cuz they were already rockin those prototypical poofy 80s poodle perms. Is there any good documentary on book on Heart? I'm sure it would be at least as interesting as the upcoming Runaways movie.

I've heard the very excellent "What About Love" twice in the last three days. Is something afoot? Is Heart and/or love in the news for some reason?

clemenza, Wednesday, 8 June 2011 21:05 (fifteen years ago)

"Love Alive" and "How Can I Refuse" my faves.

They had a new album out last year that supposedly is quite good, a return to their earlier sound rather than the glossy/commercialized mid-to-late '80s style. Anyone heard it?

Lee626, Thursday, 9 June 2011 00:12 (fifteen years ago)

"What About Love" and especially "There's The Girl" (it jangles!) are excellent.

I've got a really good version (the original?) of "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat" by Goldie & the Gingerbreads--had no idea that was Genya Ravan. I've seen Fortheringay listed in some old must-own guide (by John Collis, I think)--I'm tracking them down tomorrow.

seven years pass...

Heard an ad on the radio today for "Nancy Wilson's Heart," and I was, like, huh? What happened? I read something where the band got an offer to tour, but Ann didn't want to tour with Heart's current line-up (hmm?), so she suggested Nancy tour with *her* band, and Nancy was all, hmm, I don't know those people, pass. So Nancy got a new singer to sub for Ann, but, says Nancy, the new singer is by *no means* a substitute, because there can be no substitute. (But she's a substitute. I guess a finalist from The Voice or some shit?) And then I read that "Ann and Nancy had a falling out during Heart's 2016 tour, when Ann's husband Dean Welter was arrested for assaulting Nancy's then-16-year-old twin sons in a backstage altercation at a gig near their hometown of Seattle. He pleaded guilty to two lesser assault charges to avoid jail time." Which is fucked up? (Though Ann and Nancy eventually toured together in 2019, so who knows).

Anyway. Drama. Maybe it'll be another two bands touring the same catalog situation.
