Norma Jean Wright

This is the thread where we talk about how dope Norma Jean is. She was the original lead singer with Chic. Her records were still produced by Niles and Bernard.

The only thing I have by her is a 12" of Bearsville called Sorcerer. Imagine dope early Chic production with a slow build with latin percussion, evetunally building into a strong guitar chug with more latin percussion and a Chic bassline, and the break is a bunch of weird tweaky aliasing from an analog delay pedal(think those weird noises on Larry Levan's remix of Moody by ESG) and more chug. This stuff is as good as anything that actually hit the Chic album.

This is the best Chic produced project I have heard yet. Fuck Sister Sledge, their albums were lukewarm at best. This 12" packs serious disco heat. Apparently Saturday was her other big hit, but I have not found a copy of it yet. Definitely worth looking into. She doesn't seem to have ever been mentioned on ILM yet.

That album is fucking killer. I haven't heard it for about 8 years, and a friend made off with my vinyl Chic collection. But highly recommended if you ever see a copy.

I recall Edwards was on fire for the bulk of that record. Damn it, he was pretty much always on fire, but that album was a high point.
