Did anyone go to last night's gig? I've def heard him play better.

Hotness, but not without some stumbling points.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 28 July 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

Michael --

Any idea what the name of that track he dropped was with the cheesy, but awesome synth (with 80s type vocals as well)? It seemed to start with an almost murky beat until it unraveled to reveal this schimmering synth-disco song.

James Jung, Thursday, 28 July 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

How was Cielo? The only time I've been there it was the most antiseptic, anti-dance crowd ever.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 28 July 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

It wasn't bad. The sound was great I thought. The crowd swelled by the time Nick AC was finishing his set (which was very good by the way), then peaked for the first hour of Superpitcher (though it didn't have an uninhibited or very enthusiastic vibe to it), before dissipating. I'd be more content if they threw all these parties at subTonic, but I know you can get too many people in there -- and when you’re booking a big DJ, it's nice to sell some tickets. Also, I wish these things didn't always take place midweek -- kills me the next day.

James Jung, Thursday, 28 July 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

What point in the set was that James? He didn't play that much vocal stuff that I remember. You might be thinking of the Mayer mix of Baxendale's "I Built This City," which begins with spoken word type vocals and has disco falseto at the end.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 28 July 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

Yes! That's the one! Thanks, Michaela. I'm going to look for it on Kompakt MP3 right now.

James Jung, Thursday, 28 July 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

have you been to the regular Robots party? I hadn't even heard of it till recently.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 28 July 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

In chicago he played "Built this City" and it looked like he wanted the crowd to sing along, but it didnt really work out. The dancefloor in Grant park was packed though!

deej.., Thursday, 28 July 2005 18:09 (twenty years ago)

The track is not available yet on kompakt-mp3.net. It'll be out on Total 6 though!

James Jung, Thursday, 28 July 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

He played a lot of stuff from Ttoal 6 the whole night.

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Man, he was so great last nite. Probably the ... second best Summerdance yet, as far as I'm concerned. Frankie Knuckles closing it all down last year would have to be #1, no question.

But Superpitcher was right there last night. He had the city of Chicago LOVING Germany. It was beautiful. I've never seen so many people try to bum rush the stage at one of these things as last nite! It was amazing. He's a straight-up playa.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 29 July 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

I had a great time too, I donno if I like it more than steve silk hurley either, but its def. up there man. The best part of Frankie Knuckles was lightning hitting the sears tower and everyone cheering! Shit was WILD. I've never had so much fun in my life. My friends rapped "White Lines" along with the music at one point. But yeah, superpitcher was great too.

deej.., Friday, 29 July 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, I saw that lightninig on the Sears too ... unbelievably cool to see those sparks flying off of those antennae!! And yeah, Hurley was amazing last year...

But I just couldn't believe how into S-Pitcher the crowd was last night ... all kindsa homies bum-rushing the stage and waving their hands in the air like they just don care... And he is such a rock star too, that was great. When Emcee dood was like, "one more song"....

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 29 July 2005 04:18 (twenty years ago)

The summerdance show was fantastic, and I especially loved when he'd get out from behind the tables and dance. I could have lived without all the 16 year olds jumping all over me, but other than that, best summerdance evah!

Aksel is sooo fine, ahhh.

two weeks pass...
Revive!

Recently, I was clicking through a music message board (you know the one), and spotted a thread entitled "Superpitcher Live In NYC". Turns out he travelled over from Germany to DJ recently. And the general consensus seems to be that he was good. But we've seen him play better.

Just out of curiosity, is this the thread that Mr. Harvell is talking about? Of course the "music message board (you know the one)" that he's referring to could be something other than ILM.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

hee hee, yes it was. i was just playin. but it did provide a good jumpin off point for my points about kompakt's current omnipresence.

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 17 August 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

Very nice review - congrats

Of course the "music message board (you know the one)" that he's referring to could be something other than ILM.

Never!

Seriously, though, outside of Le Blogosphere, will the majority of Pitchfork's readers have any clue what Jess is referring to?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)
