Post-JAMC: Freeheat & Sister Vanilla

Has anybody heard any of the releases put out by these JAMC-associated groups (I guess there's a post-Gun Club link, too)? Their website has some samples, but they're painfully short, and though both of the albums may be haunting some bargain bins in Montreal, I haven't found them yet... Does Linda Reid have a myspace profile?

I bought one Freeheat release, played it once and gave it away. Pretty boring. I have only heard one Sister Vanilla song and that was on a Geographic label VA release, it was prettty nice if I remember right, but it has been a few years since I heard it.

That's disappointing, geez, maybe it's better they took a break to raise some babies.

I also remember buying some single just called William "Fuck" or something. I know it was on Creation, but I can't even remember what it sounds like.

I loved "Pastel Blue" by Sister Vanilla. I think Jim and William play on it.

Was that on a compilation, or on the album?

Jay Watts III (jaywatts), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

I only heard it on that Geographic label compilation.

If you really like the Mary Chain, pick up the Freeheat 'Retox' cd -- even at a premium. "The Two of Us,' and 'Facing Up To The Facts,' fantastic tracks. 'Long Goodbye' quality too, but more reminiscent of the Mary Chain's better b-sides.

Don't have the 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' EP, but it looks almost the same, has more or less the same track names. If you see that, I say go for it.

Really can't understand why they let the steam run out. They should have made an album proper. Those two tracks prove Jim Reid still obviously had it.

That said, he and William should just get on with putting the band back for a tour. They've had a rest. The tunes are still there and the time is more than ripe.

I have a William Reid CD, where he 'showcases' his three alias's.

"William", something and something else, on Nicky Tam (or something like it) records.

Hey, information underload!

the freeheat records have a few pretty good tracks between them. william reid's stuff has moments of glory but you have to dig through a lot of half-assedness.

I saw Sister Vanilla supporting the Pastels in East Kilbride a couple of years ago. They were OK, but to be honest I found her irritating after a while. The Arts Centre's a lovely venue - shame it's in EK :)

I will dig through any amount of half-asses to get at the kernels of glory!

then you will be rewarded!
