Who should be added?

I have a few picks of my own.

Todd Rundgren, Nick Lowe, The Ronettes and The Shangri-Las.

Voodoo Child, Thursday, 28 July 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

War and Three Dog Night.

Rundgren will be in within the next 2-3 years. So will Blondie.

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Thursday, 28 July 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Which artists are at the top of the list of being passed up by The RnR Hall Of Fame

Keith C (kcraw916), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

Without looking at the older post(s), I'll say without hesitation...

KRAFTWERK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

And also...Where the hell is Electric Light Orchesta???

I bet they'd put in The Travelling Wilburys before they ever put in ELO.

I bet Tom Petty and Bob Dylan are Jeff Lynne with their awards.

And Roy Orbison and George Harrison are haunting him in his dreams.

Voodoo Child, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

ABBA
Big Star
Black Sabbath
Cheap Trick
Chic
The Cure
Donna Summer
Harry Nilsson
T. Rex
The Replacements
Gary Numan

And yeah, ELO should totally be in there.

darin (darin), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

are TAUNTING***

Voodoo Child, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Black Sabbath is the most obvious one.

57 7th (calstars), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

Dick Dale
Link Wray
Television

Wow, John Peel seconded. Good call.

PB, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

I only put the Performers list on here. There's a whole bunch of lists on the website.

I'm pretty sure Peel will get in next time, but his spot will probably be taken by some guy who played an Everly Brothers record 2x.

Voodoo Child, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

Ozzy will make it in some form or another someday. I read something recently where he said he didn't want to get in b/c "fucking Paul Shaeffer" (sp) is in charge of the music at the induction ceremony.

PB, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

What's his beef with Paul?

And why isn't Paul Schaeffer in the hall of fame? His been doing a good job at Band Director for 30 years (SNL, The Late Show, RnR HoF).

Plus he Wrote or Co-Wrote "It's Raining Men"

He's definately a Shoe-In.

Voodoo Child, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:49 (twenty years ago)

Don't forget his funny turn in The Blues Brothers.

As much as I've grown to love Paul, I can see how someone could be heavily turned off by him.....

Speaking of SNL music directors, G.E. Smith has my vote to be in the RnR HOF.....

PB, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I'd vote G.E. Smith too, but for his work for Hall & Oates.

Voodoo Child, Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Has Tom Dowd made it in the non-performer list? He seems like an obvious choice, as well.

darin (darin), Thursday, 28 July 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

I last spotted my man G.E. playing blues at Cleveland Browns Stadium during TV timeouts. Imagine my surprise when, in the midst of my Brownies getting annhiliated by someone, I see G.E. playing Stones covers on a dinky stage set up by some food concessions.

Seeing as the Browns' Stadium is right next to the RnR HOF, that may be the closest he'll ever get.....

PB, Thursday, 28 July 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

Hall, Smith, and Oates.

Voodoo Child, Thursday, 28 July 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

They'll never get in, but...

Wire
Mekons
Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito Brothers

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Thursday, 28 July 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Parsons may be in already as a member of the Byrds -- the RRHoFM website is vague about whether it was just the original five inducted.

Dowd is not in but the last time I was at the museum there was a kiosk playing that 'Tom Dowd Remembers' program (or whatever it was called).

Jeff Wright (JeffW1858), Friday, 29 July 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

i assume john peel would be listed in a separate section for nonperformers - no sam phillips or phil spector either.

it's kind of heartwarming that the sex pistols haven't made the list. like, "awww - someone out there is STILL offended."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 29 July 2005 04:24 (twenty years ago)

six years pass...

If someone else starts a separate thread for this year's nominees, great, but I won't do it myself (I pay too much attention to such stuff, even something as haphazard and often baffling as this institution). Anyway, among carry-overs from last year's nominees, Donna Summer, the Beastie Boys, and (personal favourite) Donovan should go in. Among first-time nominees, the Spinners--I'm surprised they aren't already in, and don't know why it's taken so long for them to be nominated (their first records go back to the early '60s).

I guess you can make a case for Joan Jett and/or Heart, but not for me. The Small Faces/Faces, maybe. Rufus, no. I think there are already too many inductees like Freddie King, artists who were undoubtedly influential, but who to my mind just don't have enough well-known music. Eric B & Rakim made one album I used to think highly of, but I don't know, I don't see much of a case there. Laura Nyro, still a pass. The idea of the Cure being in there seems silly to me, Guns 'N Roses slightly less so, and I'll leave it at that.

I don't see much of a case there

Rakim is widely regarded as the greatest rapper of all time, just fyi

unorthodox economic revenge (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 30 September 2011 22:49 (fourteen years ago)

I thought Snow was...I know they're hugely influential on other hip-hop artists, but in a broader context, their moment or whatever didn't seem to extend much past Paid in Full. But I won't put up much of an argument there; I'm far from a hip-hop historian.
