"Lil' Kim is preparing to release her fourth solo album just days before going to jail for perjury. Naked Truth is due Sept. 13 via Queen Bee/Atlantic; the artist has been ordered to report Sept. 19 to begin serving out her year-and-a-day term in a Connecticut prison. The Queen Bee has already given her fans a first look at 'Naked Truth' via the advance buzz track 'Shut Up,' which is lighting up radio mixshows across the country. The timely and provocative track finds Kim openly confronting her critics, especially those who spread gossip and rumors about her life.

With less than two months to go, she is already making a radio bid with lead "Naked Truth" single "Shut Up Bitch." The track debuted last week at No. 66 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and No. 73 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list.

"Naked Truth" will boast collaborations with a range of sure-fire producers, notably Kanye West, Scott Storch and 7 Aurelius. Other songs confirmed to make the final cut are "Spellcheck," "So Quiet" and "Welcome to Brooklyn."

A full track list for the disc is not yet finalized as at deadline, Lil' Kim is said to still be in the studio recording new material."

you think it'll be as good as i hope Gary Higgins "Red Hash" is? (buying it this weekend)

plain ol' jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

"Shut Up" is terribly annoying.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

'Shut Up Bitch' = giggles.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 28 July 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

TS: perjury vs naked truth

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Friday, 29 July 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

how/where/when/why did Kim perjure?

tk (tk), Friday, 29 July 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

"Spellcheck" = Little Kim

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

>how/where/when/why did Kim perjure?<

Her boyfriend, who lived with her and appeared in some of her videos, was involved in a shootout outside a radio station in NYC. She lied about both him and her ex-manager being there to protect them to a grand jury, even going so far as to claim she didn't know who her boyfriend/ex-bodyguard was. She's not that bright.

three months pass...
So was there any talk about this album at all? It got 5 mics and ilm ignored it?

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

(haha SHOCKER)

deej.. (deej..), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

'lighters up' is undoubtedly scott storch's finest moment.

jermaine (jnoble), Tuesday, 15 November 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

The only out and out bad song is "Quiet" with the Game which is produced by Eminem, isn't it.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

This reminds me of the terrible Slick Rick cd he made before he was incarcerated. That album stinks, except for the "cut down on the chubby tip" line, in referring to fat women.

These things are always rushed. The money is spent on gummy bears and flip flops, ya know things you need 'inside.'

hydrallus (hydraulis2), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

It didn't sound rushed to me, 20+ tracks.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 04:07 (twenty years ago)

I really liked the first half, it just sank into filler. The long phone conversation at the end made for some odd listening. I like "Shut Up Bitch" quite a lot.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 07:23 (twenty years ago)

benzino got 5 mics too. where is the love? ;0)

amon (eman), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 08:23 (twenty years ago)

and wtf, "the ruler's back" isn't terrible.

amon (eman), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

if i had more time to spend on ilx these days i would've talked about it! i think it's a fucking incredible album. did she record it all during her trial? 'kitty box' and 'whoa' are MASSIVE.

i have the last verse of 'shut up bitch' off by heart!

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

Ethan (who was also really into La Bella Mafia) said it's good. I honestly think the cover art scared away a lot of potential buyers (myself included).

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

b-b-but the cover is INCREDIBLE. she looks like a psychotic doll, like chucky's adult sister.

it's awesome to know someone else was feeling la bella mafia, that album gets so little love from what i can see. (well, about a quarter of it is completely disposable, but when it's good it's SO SO GOOD)

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

I like "I know you see me," more of a strutting soul-sampler than the now totally yawnsome nostalgic/'SOUL'-ful soul sampling.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

I want to get this record but I also really want it to be good. Maybe I'll just get La Bella Mafia instead.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

Notorious Kim was a lot better. "Shut Up" is my favourite from the new album, "Spell Check" also cute, don't care much for the rest.

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Nah I think its definitely got an album's worth of great tracks, definitely a fall-off near the end but luckily comes back for T.I. and the final track.

deej.. (deej..), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

the skits on Bella Mafia were so unlistenably, aggressively anti-funny that I had to go into therapy after only hearing 'em one time through. Fool me once, Li'l Kim

Banana Nutrament (ghostface), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

Hip hop skits are in general my least favorite part of hip hop albums. Actually skits in general suck, but hip hop albums have more of them.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 16 November 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

Benzino got 4 mics, not 5, right?

Hey, she helpfully marks the skits with emdashes on the tracklisting so you know which ones to skip! Can't say fairer than that.
Though admittedly the actual titles of "Answering Machine Skit 1" ad "Answering Machine Skit 2" could have her up before the Better Business Bureau.

kit brash (kit brash), Thursday, 17 November 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

i'll look at cover and videos .

retroboy, Thursday, 17 November 2005 10:02 (twenty years ago)

the 'shut up bitch' skit is funny.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 17 November 2005 12:19 (twenty years ago)

The Ruler's Back is a fucking great album. The one after that, not so much.
