Is it my imagination, or is the photo of "Lightning Bolt" in today's Pitchfork news section actually a photo of Pink and Brown?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 July 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

God, I hate myself.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 29 July 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

...and now it's not there anymore.

Best thread ever.

As soon as some jizz-eyed superfan of Jonah Matranga (sp?) out of Far, Onelinedrawing etc scans the page feature from this week's Kerrang! that's headlined "THIS MAN INVENTED EMO", I'll add that to the turmoil

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 29 July 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Oh I've wanted to start a thread like this! But didn't want to be too, er, obnoxious. Back soon haha!

OleM (OleM), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

OK a tiny one to start with: In Rip It Up and Start Again, Reynolds mentions the Tuxedomoon-affiliated Bruce Gedulgig; should be Geduldig. Apparently not a typo either; it appears more than once, plus in the index.

OleM (OleM), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Did anyone screencap it?

Speaking of that Pitchfork story, does anybody else find it just maybe half-strange that the new Lightning Bolt record was engineered by a guy who used to be in, umm, Small Factory?

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

(I mean I know he's worked on lots of different stuff at this point, but it's still kind of funny.)

Could you believe (no, really!) that one of the hottest producers/musical acts in New York City used to be in Pony and Speedkings! No I'm serious! Hey, where are you going? Come back here! Hey!

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

He's got dudes from Cake in his band, too, which really makes perfect sense.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, "dude," singular. Up next: new Wolf Eyes (engineered by Peter Momtchiloff).

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Auchenbach is funny; he does like everything in RI ever --- most of the Wishing Tree stuff and he already did Wonderful Rainbow.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Friday, 29 July 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Also, John MacLean recorded/mixed some serious INDIE POP during the 6FS days. LOLZ

Today's NY Times has Quiet Riot as the authors of "Cum On Feel the Noize."

RATT, QUIET RIOT, CINDERELLA, FIREHOUSE (Tomorrow) This bill includes four prominent 1980's hair metal bands. To the pop canon, Ratt contributed the vibrant and enduring "Round and Round," while Quiet Riot has the distinction of writing the thuddingly irritating, yet also enduring "Cum on Feel the Noize." 7 p.m., North Fork Theater at Westbury Music Fair, 960 Brush Hollow Road, Westbury, N.Y., (516) 334-0800, $51.50. (Sinagra)

Whereas everyone knows it was Oasis!

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 29 July 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Dude, if you listen to both Lightning Bolt & Small Factory, why can't he?

Douglas (Douglas), Friday, 29 July 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

You know I learned from the New York Times that Devendra Banhart's muse was someone who rode around in a dogcart for thirty years.

George Smith, Friday, 29 July 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

:(

I was just saying it was weird and stuff.

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 29 July 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

can this also be the thread where we proclaim how annoying it is when "writers" feel like they have to immediately repost a spelling correction or try to insert a word in their previous post they left out when the meaning of the post was clear with the spelling mistakes and missed word. we get it, you are clearly very smart and skilled in writing. you get a gold star but please don't waste posts by proving you know how to spell something.

stand by for further posts when i realize the errors contained withing this post.

spellCheckR, Friday, 29 July 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

I thought Auchenbach did Wonderful Rainbow AND Ride The Skies!

"Great, Gina. But see, there are FIVE FUCKING SONGS ON CHRONIC TOWN!!!!"

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 29 July 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

What bugs me is when reviewers who clearly don't have a clue about music try and actually analyse something musically. There's a classic example in the Q special on Neil Young. The writer has this to say about 'Heart of Gold': 'Its ascending chord sequence instantly signals a confidence that, while it's hard to locate, that precious thing is out there'. Uh? WTF does that mean? And since when was E minor to C to D to G a fecking 'ascending chord sequence' fer chrissakes? Pretentious, meaningless, stupid and wrong.

avery keen-gardner (avery keen-gardner), Sunday, 31 July 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, and in the SPIN Record Guide, Eric Weisbard says Tori Amos's "Silent All These Years" has an "atonally complex melody," I think, when in fact it has nothing of the kind. It's pretty confidently in one major key, with maybe a tonally ambiguous piano lead-in.

dr. phil (josh langhoff), Monday, 1 August 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

that quiet riot thing is pretty amazing. what a boner.
