I always have to Re-Organize my CD's/LP's all the time, and when I do it, I always listen to something. So here's my "Top 5 'Album Organizing' Albums" list

1. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
2. Otis Redding - The Dock of the Bay
3. Television Personalities - And Don't the Kids Just Luve It
4. Television - Marquee Moon
5. Phil Spector - Back to Mono (Disc 2)

Oh, I forgot to ask. What do you guys recommend???

Voodoo Child, Friday, 29 July 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

Tom lehrer is great for this.

Tom lehrer is great for this.

No he isn't. Whenever I play Tom Lehrer, I'm always listening intently to what he's singing/saying, so how could I concentrate on my alphabetizing?

I'd suggest Kraftwerk: clean, propulsive, efficient.

Tortoise - Millions Now Living Will Never Die (Thrilljockey)

I just finished completing organizing my album collection. I took about 3 hours and this is what I listened to.

Hollywood Brats - Hollywood Brats
I just downloaded this so I thought I'd listen to it. It's really good and also really good to organize with. I recommend it.

This Mortal Coil - It'll End in Tears
I regreted listening to this. It made me feel like I was an arabian prisoner because I was in my basement with no air conditioner. I don't recommed it.

Love - Love
It's a really great album. Not to sure about listening to it while you're in a busy situation, but listen to it anyway. It's really great.

"Oh dear, I've put my top five album-organizing-albums in my 5-CD changer while organizing, and forgotten to include those albums in the organizing. I guess I'll have to start over." (head implodes)

Budgie - "In For The Kill".

no idea why.

I thought it would be funny to reorganize by spine color, but now I can't find anything.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 30 July 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I did that a few years ago. And it looks great, but it's a right nuisance to find anything, especially in the swathes of CDs with either black or white spines.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Saturday, 30 July 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

I thought it would be funny to reorganize by spine color, but now I can't find anything.

The art director of a magazine I used to work for used to do this. I did look cool, for whatever that's worth.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 30 July 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

IT did look cool, not I. I rarely look cool.

Well, mine are (bor-ing) alphabetized, on shelves, with no regard to colour. But there IS this huge orange-and-black cluster on the second shelf that realy stands out, even from across the room. That's my twenty-odd John (and Alice!) Coltrane titles on IMPULSE!, with their timeless Hallowe'en-coloured spines. Classy.

Oh, and if I were reorganizizing, I'd play something long and instrumental, like Miles' Jack Johnson or Fripp and Eno.

Whenever it involves having to have background music whilst getting something important done, I'll always say Emperor's "Anthems to the Welkin At Dusk".

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 1 August 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

ABC, The Lexicon of Love, How to Be a Zillionaire!
The Zombies, Singles A's and B's
ZZ Top, anything

if you forget them it's okay, they go at the beginning or at the end

this thread is truly horrifying!

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

this thread displays the true essence of ILM.
now give away all your music and follow me.

p.j. (Henry), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

I was only speaking theoretically, by the way. I have only ever organized my music like this once, and it was a disaster.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 1 August 2005 14:19 (twenty years ago)

I just did the Alphabetical Artist, Chronilogical Releases.

Voodoo Child, Monday, 1 August 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

I just did the Alphabetical Artist, Chronilogical Releases.

Then Alex seems to be OTM with Kraftwerk.

PB, Monday, 1 August 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

I actually just organized my collection from genre-specific to alphabetical (the way to go), and I did the tired Radiohead chronology listening experience. But it worked.

And the best part of the endeavor was that the huge CD case I used was one I picked out of my neighbor's garbage the day before. Serves 'im right.
