no one going to see 'em? really wish they would have included seattle or vancouver.

drone/a/saur (william), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 00:52 (twenty years ago)

fuck yeah, i'm there.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 00:55 (twenty years ago)

This fall is getting too crazy! Should I road trip for the NY or Brooklyn shows?

superultramega (superultramarinated), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

ROXX.

too bad they're not playing with UrDog at any of the NY shows; that band rules.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

did anyone catch the knitting factory show? how was it?

also, any more dates? (hoping for boston, but an NYC trip could be fun)

Francisco Monar (fmonar), Monday, 15 August 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to the SF show.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 August 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

September, not August. (unless I'm missing something here.)

I'm gonna go to the NY show.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 15 August 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

me too

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Monday, 15 August 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

i might go to both. for the openers at both... are pretty great. merzbow & double leopards in manhattan, khanate & psychic paramount & mouthus in brooklyn.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 15 August 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Despite my fear of Merzbau, I think I will go for the Earth Circle.

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 06:16 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
so how was the fucking show?

Francisco Monar (fmonar), Friday, 9 September 2005 12:43 (twenty years ago)

I left my pseudo review of the show on this other thread: going to see circle/merzbow/earth tonight

In short, GREAT.

mcd (mcd), Friday, 9 September 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

Why are they playing in NY twice!? When you guys are finally done with them over there could you send them back to CA?

walter kranz (walterkranz), Friday, 9 September 2005 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Just woke up the day after seeing Circle and Urdog in Raleigh. It was sorta bizarre cuz they were part of this bigger 3-night set of shows called Hatchetfest, put on by this local music publication The Hatchet, which just had pretty much Raleigh bands the rest of the time. I guess the Circle and Urdog schedule just fit in.

With 5 bands, it was kind of a late night, but worth staying till after 2:00 am to catch the Circle and Urdog tandem. Urdog, I thought were pretty good. At that point I was getting pretty tired though, and their last song had me fading in and out of conciousness I think. They had a similar setup to Oneida, but weren't nearly as all over the place as them. It was some pretty good droney-ness all in all.

Circle on the other hand were totally spectacular, especially in the outfits department. The singer wore this leather pimp hat, sunglasses, wifebeater, and shoes that were kinda zebra-striped. When he wasn't playing keyboards, he stood up and did some pretty funny dancing. The guitarist played with his shirt off, and the drummer wore a black mask over just his eyes. As for the performance, I assume they were playing mostly stuff from their brand new album Tulikoira, which seems to be more metal, according to AQ. It was definitely riff-tastic, and had the somewhat sparse audience that had stayed that late fully pumping fists and cheering along. The band also bowed after every song, a nice touch. I kinda wish I picked up one of their albums, but I was kind of in a hurry to go home so I didn't. Oh well, great show nonetheless.

Stingy (stingy), Saturday, 10 September 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

xpost
Fuck CA, howsabout anywheres near my house!!!!!!!!!

peepee (peepee), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:18 (twenty years ago)

Sounds like Circle's stagewear is pretty constant. Thus their look last Sunday.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 10 September 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

x-treme!!!!

Francisco Monar (fmonar), Sunday, 18 September 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

too short!

~~~~ DODONGO DISLIKES SMOKE ~~~~ (ex machina), Sunday, 18 September 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)
Still better than none at all.
Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 September 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)
i tried doing the grandpa dance along with him during the last song. barely made it.
Francisco Monar (fmonar), Monday, 19 September 2005 01:18 (twenty years ago)
there's an excellent bootleg of the SF show floating around... places...
harshaw (jube), Monday, 19 September 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)
Can anybody recommend a good Circle album to start with?
Edward III (edward iii), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 00:40 (twenty years ago)
"sunrise" is a good place to start if you want a bit of the heavier side of what ciecle does. the new one,"Tulikoira" is pretty decent as well and shows the more experimental side of what they do. i would not have minded the final track being 12 minutes shorter,but i digress.
drone/a/saur (william), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 02:20 (twenty years ago)
if you can find a copy, i would get ANDEXELT. (like a lot of their stuff, it is OOP) it has a lot of krautrock inspired locked grooves and some electronics in there for good measure. its my personal favorite.
Francisco Monar (fmonar), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)
yeah... i was hoping for a more groovy cd after their set. tulikoira is still great though.
awesome.
msp (mspa), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)
I've listened to some of the sound samples online but nothing sounds quite like what I heard live. Which album is the most Magma-y?
walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)
GREAT show.
I got one of the tshirts.. the backs of which say "NWOFHM." that sold me.
Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)
Yeah, I loved that one. Had I the cash then, I would have picked it up.
Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)
Raunio, their live album, was the first one that I heard. It's got that over the top operatic vocal style. I think they sing in a language of their own, called Meronian. That's pretty Magmesque.
Prospekt is also good, but I'm not sure if it's in print anymore.
The 2lp version of it is on Static Resonance. I just got a burn of Alotus and it rules. Sucks that I couldn't make it to any of their North American shows. My friends in Chicago gave the show high praise.
Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)
Alright, you guys can talk about their albums, but enough already about their live shows!!!!
peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)
So how about Pharoah Overlord? I'm tempted to buy this one just for the cover:
walter kranz (walterkranz), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)
We've had a Pharaoh overlord thread in which we discuss their GREATNESS.. though as some have noted, it's almost like pharaoh overloard and circle switched sounds for their respective new releases (circle more metal, pharaoh overlord more kraut)
Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)
Pharaoh Overlord?????
peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 20 September 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)
The Atlanta show was amazing. There were only about 40 people there. I took some photos if someone wants to check them out.
John Short, Thursday, 22 September 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)
Reatards Unite, Friday, 14 September 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)
i too am awaiting some report of this tour.....
anybody??
drone/a/sore, Saturday, 22 September 2007 01:19 (eighteen years ago)
well,happily i have finally had a chance to see the magnificent circle live. wow!! drove down to seattle last monday and saw them with the grails and assemble head in sunburst sound at chop suey. great show. maybe a little short [70 minutes] but well worth arriving home at 3 am.
btw... katapult is a terrific release that has brought me back to the circle fold after panic....which i thought sucked ....save for the fast songs.
drone/a/sore, Monday, 1 October 2007 04:39 (eighteen years ago)
I got Katapult in the mail a few days ago and enjoy it quite a bit. My gf doesn't like the "weird voices" though.
rockapads, Monday, 1 October 2007 18:40 (eighteen years ago)
i liked Panic, how does Katapult compare to that? as diverse? heavier? slower?
