Is CMJ 2005 worth it?

I'd love to see The Arcade Fire, Dungen, Acid Mothers Temple, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Annie and Of Montreal. However, I'm sure I won't get in to see at least 2 of these bands, because this is how it always works out. Is this really worth $225?

Does anyone know of any noteworthy bands who have yet to be announced? Based on the announcements so far, this year seems pretty uneventful - like they should have dropped the pricetag or something. I told myself that if 2 more bands get announced that I would like to see, I'll join my fellow radio kids. If not, I'm on the line as to whether I should make an effort to attend.

that's a considerably not-bad lineup!

Atmosphere, !!!, The Juan MacLean, The Hold Steady...

I don't think I'm allowed to say too much else on it, but the Relapse Records showcase is absolutely fucking amazing.

Plus Chad VanGaalen might be this year's Arcade Fire.

My Love My Way will probably be there.

Super Cub (Debito), Saturday, 30 July 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

I will be there!

I heard that if one of the larger headliner drops out or they can't get a hold of them before the show, they'll replace them with one of the bands that's paid to appear on their compilations...

Hmm, that came out clumsy.

uhm, this means "who they licensed a song from"?

Chad VanGaalen is certainly worth seeing. But I'm definitely not paying that much to head up to CMJ this year.

Speaking of which, CMJ seems destined to follow National Lampoon's lead and persist as a brand long after it's ceased being a magazine.

do people actually buy those "all-access" passes? it seems like a better idea just to pay for the shows you want to go to that you can't scam guestlist spots for.

its not like the passes guarantee admission even.

although i would like to see the arcade fire. i seemed to have missed them at every opportunity.

Chad VanGaalen might be this year's Arcade Fire.

Ha! Name the last indie artist who records under his own name and who wasn't in a major indie band, who has sold > 200,000 units.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Monday, 1 August 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

On what planet did Arcade Fire sell 200,000 units?

P.S., Damien Rice.

Canada, a rocky, frozen satellite circling Uranus.

never worth it because NYC costs $$$$ to do anything. i am still salty over my CMJ badge being given "accidentally" to the girlfriend of a co-worker a few years back.

How Bizarre

On what planet did Arcade Fire sell 200,000 units?

The Arcade Fire have already managed to sell 200,000 albums in the US, and on this form they look set to make similar waves this side of the pond.
