I, too, must vote for TGTB&TU. My brother and I watched Once Upon a Time in the West this past week, and I was reminded that Morricone wrote some AMAZING scores. I think my favorite piece from TGTB&TU is the one that the prisoners in the civil war concentration camp play while Tuco is being beaten. Just so..fragile and beautiful and haunting. The men's chorus behind the theme gets me every single time.

I also have a soft spot for John Williams' score of the original Star Wars.

Big Loud Mountain Ape (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 9 August 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

I'm liking 2001: A Space Odyssey at the moment, though parts of it have obviously been parodied and cliched to hell. What are the pieces of music used in the opening, intermission, and ..."travelling" sequence?

Is this Ligeti's "Atmospheres"?

Morricone, Herrmann -- pick several.

Recently, Michael Gordon's "Decasia" and Elmer Bernstein's "Far from Heaven."

Gil Melle's Andromeda Strain is up there, too.
