Sorry if something similar to this has been done before. I couldn't find anything.

Pick ten rock songs released in 1963 or earlier. R&B is fine as well. Or pretty much any songs that the kids were into when rock was movin on up. It doesn't matter if they're by European groups or American groups. Pre-Beatles please.

This is really pretty tough, and I am doubtless forgetting several songs/artists I want to include, but:

Link Wray - Deuces Wild
Collins Kids - Mercy
Chuck Berry - Brown-Eyed Handsome Man
Johnny Burnette/Rock & Roll Trio - Train Kept A-Rollin
The Ronettes - Do I Love You? (maybe not rock, actually, but whatever)
Eddie Cochran - C'mon Everybody
Tarheel Slim - Number Nine Train
Carl Perkins - Put Your Cat Clothes On
Bo Diddley - Who Do You Love?
Elvis - Mystery Train

Is Stick McGhee's "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" a rock song? Because it would be my #1.

I'm one of those freaks that distinguish between Rock and Rock 'n' Roll, so none of the above would count as Rock for me.

I'm woefully ignorant of a lot of this stuff, but I thought this article was a good intro to some of the best songs.
