Floyd

Though it's not a really fair comparison because that bit at the end of Sgt. Pepper is short. If you're talking about the gibberish plus the end of "A Day in the Life," Beatles pwn.

"Bike"...its goddamned lunacy (and it makes sense given the last verse)

Graham Coxon, in that Syd thing from the BBC, points out that it used to scare him as a younger man.

originally, the beatles thing ended on a locked groove, right?

three years pass...

Many many years ago (1986) I was responsible for running the sound effects at a university haunted house. I mixed together several different tape loops as the mood struck = Metal Machine Music, Einstürzende Neubauten's “Der Tod ist ein Dandy,” Throbbing Gristle's "Subhuman," the Jim Jones suicide tape, *and* the ending of "Bike." I ended up going with "Bike" mostly (it's just so great!) and at the end of the night the house workers were WAY FREAKED OUT by "Bike" the most. Especially with it blaring away for four or so hours.

On the other hand customers though it was great and one of the scariest haunted houses they had been in. Between running sound and setting up the alien goo/toxic waste superfund site it was one of my fave Halloweens.

NO ONE BUT NO ONE believed that it was Pink Floyd I was playing.
