i downloaded two of the most amazing albums recently by Armando Piazza. they're early 70s Italian acid folk but sung in english. they're really mellow with tasty guitar leads (all fuzzed out on one of the albums). there's not a ton of info on him online, but a lot of the sites reference Shawn Phillips guitar and songwriting help on the albums. Phillips claims to have written much of the Sunshine Superman album with Donovan. I looked him up on AMG and he has a ton of albums that seem to be in print. any suggestions on which albums to pick up?

I'd start with "Second Contribution". My personal favorite...

Concurrence. "Second Contribution" is the place to start.

i need more shawn phillips records. meanwhile, before he got all spaced out he had like 3 or 4 trad folk albums out in the mid 60's. anyone ever heard them?

i LOVE the mellow stuff on contribution and second contribution, but some of the up-tempo stuff isn't as great. still pretty solid records though.

and then there is all the 70's stuff i've never heard. i'd better get on the case. i wanna hear these:

best quote on the back of contribution:

"in mexico with donovan - my music began to come out. i threw off all the crap and i played with twice the energy and drive i ever had before. it was funny. i just suddenly came into harmony with all things."

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me when i was down in mexico with ione skye once. go figure.

six years pass...

Really been into later 70's Shawn Phillips lately. Well, only Spaced and Do You Wonder because those are the only two albums I've been able to find, but I really love the extra slick studio session folk vibe of them. Side two of Spaced in particular is wonderful:
