US iTunes versus UK iTunes question...

Does anyone know if it's possible for an American with a US billing address to have access to the UK's iTunes selections? There is so much more available - their exlusives seem to regularly feature interesting remixes, etc. Or is the idea that the "import" cd single market would collapse if people could pay a pound for the b-side?

Surely the U.S. iTunes isn't appealing to the Brits for any reason (do we get *anything* first?)? Would anyone have any interest in buying mp3s for each other from our respective sites and trading?

presumably the idea is simply that they -- and the labels that control the songs -- only have the rights to sell them in certain territories. it's not that anyone is afraid of itunes selling that certain import single to a US customer. it's that neither itunes nor the uk label has the right to make that sale.

uk price = 79p ($1.43)
us price = 99c

maybe if you were a hardcore (legal) downloader in the UK it would be cheaper?
