Tell Me About the Barracudas

I've been listening to the Children of Nuggets box, and the Barracudas are a big standout for me (they also caught my ear on that massive 1981 mix that was posted here a little while ago). Anyone else like them? Are their records still in print?

I Wish It Could Be 1965 Again.

I've kinda liked them on and off for a couple of decades. They are still playing together, I understand. "Drop Out With The Barracudas" was released with bonus tracks on cd a few years ago. It's the best one although Wait For Everything is good later period material.

Yup. I think I wrote an AMG review...

GREAT band. Early stuff kinda has a surf bent, strangely enough since they were British. Later stuff is somewhat moodier, and boasts Chris Wilson (ex-Flamin Groovies) on guitar. There's a 2-disc set called This Ain't My Time which has most of the really good stuff; the Garbage Dump disc has demos which are more raw but great. "Grammar of Misery" in particular stands with the best power-pop of all time IMO.

Seek out Drop Out With The Barracudas (it's in print and available from Bomp). Pretty much state-of-the-1980-art power pop.

Their cover of "Codeine" is ace.

Yes, Drop Out is the album. That song "Somebody" is closer to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" than even "More Than a Feeling."

Their drummer was Nicky Turner, I believe, who later played for The Lords of the New Church.
