See, she really does want to make it, but the odds are so stacked against them, with what's-his-name pawning his guitar and whatnot, that she appeals to the worst case scenario and tries to believe it doesn't matter. Oh, but it does. She knows it.

This reads like a dialogue than self-contradiction.

Come to think of it, all of these are more like caveats.

I think the standard Destroyer move is - as the name advertises - to set up a thought or emotion and then criticize/demolish/interrupt/reverse/interrogate it, plus generous sprinklings of nonsequiturs.

It's contradiction in a dialectical sense but usually sans synthesis.
