so that Graeme Jeffries album really didn't deserve that 10 rating from Spin

i'm talking about the album Messages for the Cakekitchen. I bought it after reading the review circa 1990 and listen to it about once every 4-5 years and it's not getting any better.

Messages From the Cakekitchen is brilliant, you guys are off your rocker.

Then again, I probably haven't listened to it in about 4-5 years either. But then again, I don't think I've listened to my copies of December's Children or Fare Forward Voyagers or say, Silent Tongues in about 4-5 years either. Doesn't mean that they all aren't old, dear friends.

I actually prefer Graeme to Peter anyway, so there you go.

Somehow I knew I would be invoked. My AMG review, and I am with Stormy on the album's worth, though generally I am more of a Peter fan myself. Both great, though.

this was my favorite record for a long time. it's probably worth a 13. i mean how can 'the cardhouse' not break your heart? and 'prisoner of a single passion' is just gorgeous with a lovely touch of menace with that screeching viola. 'nothing that's new' is pretty well perfect, and the ending of 'simple tapestry of fate'??? tears. maybe it deserves a 14 because the ending is amazing too. this is the best jefferies affiliated record followed closely by 'in the same room' and 'beard of bees' then probably 'electricity'. i was never much for 'last great challenge' and when he met jean smith he died. cakekitchen is alright but the rock band thing sometimes got tedious. he's got those really silly leather pants too and 'don't be fooled by the label' is awesome.
